Re: Belgian built 1969 AK350 'Hetty'
Paint them you're self! It's really cheap to paint the wheels, if you don't need them to have "mirror finish". I had a set of rusty old wheels. Decided to paint them, just to have a spare set "in stock". I took the tires off and wire brushed the rims. Then first coat was Owatrol and then there was maybe 3 or 4 layers of oil-paint. I added 20% owatrol to the paint to get it to "flow"(right word?) better. The oil paint was blended to match the original 2CV-color Blanc Meije (Code:EWT) Angle grinder with wire brush I already had. Owatrol, just a little from the can I already had. Paint and brushes: 20 euro It's two years since now, and they are still just as nice. But must admit, they have not been exposed to road salt. The inside/backside I covered in Owatrol, to slow down the typical rust in the weld. Owatrol is GREAT on rusty bits which are not going to be painted with regular car paint. (It is an oil, and can only be used with oil-based paint) (BTW:Both pictures are of the same wheels! It's just an example of how much a photograph can lie depending on the camera and the light.)

Re: Belgian built 1969 AK350 'Hetty'
Fiddled with the electrics a bit yesterday. My fantastic online £40 battery arrived, really cant complain. It had leaked a little in transit so when I put it on the concrete there was much fizzing I also bought some quick release battery clips for it from eBay - £8 I've added an additional fuse box for modern additions. I believe that when adding things to an old car it should be clear what's new so that in the future if anyone did want to strip it back to original i makes there job easier. The fuse box currently has only the 12v cigerette socket wired into it, but it will also be used for Hetty's ICE Yesterday I also started adding some new soundproofing to the bulkhead. It will be covered by carpet eventually. I then added the new rear light clusters. This necessitated a little bodywork around the old light fittings to tidy them up. I then installed the new LED light clusters. These also provide indicators in the normal place. I just wired in a live feed from the teddy bear ears. Much improved from before!

Excellent progress, but those rear lights are horrible IMHO. It makes it look like you simply can't be bothered to fix it properly.

There not beautiful, but I'm putting safety first. I want the lights to be exactly where people would expect them!
In the flesh they're quite similar to acad rear lights.

But you can - and, imho, should - do it more sensitively than that. I mean, it's your van an' all, but... Quote: In the flesh they're quite similar to acad rear lights. They look like somebody tried to cheap-up on Acad lights.
