I can never decide what I do about wheels. I'm sorely tempted to fork out and buy new ones as I know they'll be solid.

What to do...

I would go for new ones, just for safety reasons .
I do not trust rims with rust, better go for the best .

Of those with 145s fitted, I'd say 2 of them are okish. 2 are shot at the seems. These are later welded type wheels.

Post some pics, Sam - have to admit, I don't remember 'em being that bad. <shrug> Have a rummage when you're up here, I've got umpteen rims with shit tyres - if any are any good, have a couple.

The spare on the van is gone at the seems.

Not sure it's been off its mount since we bought the van...

The 4 on the van are early riveted type and all have surface rust, particularly on the outer rim.

Purely cosmetic, though?

Yeah that spares got a Mich 125 on it!

Yes the riveted rims are solid but need some tlc. Ill enquire with some blasting places over the weekend to see what it would cost me to have them blasted and painted.

Wire brush. Electric drill. Rattlecan (or brush). Job jobbed.

I genuinely hadnt thought of going at them with a drill and a wire brushy thing. A morning would probably see them good

I've wire-brush-on-angle-grindered and then repainted some before, I was disappointed how easily the rust came back and the paint isn't very hard wearing. I recently had some powder coated, looks great but make sure you're sitting down when you get the bill.

A local company have quoted me £40 a whhel to blast and powder coat in a colour of my choice. So thats £160.

A new set in grey is £150 or painted up £180.

When I weigh up what its going to cost me in time, primer, nice paint I can't convince myself its worth it - I'm still prettying up old wheels that are likely to rust again.

I might just run with the existing wheels for now, grotty but 'french' looking though they are and save for some really nice new ones!
