 Changing brake fluid
Wanted to read up on this tonight but I've left my haynes manual at the barn with the van.
Please tell me its as simple as draining out the old fluid and putting new stuff in, then bleeding the system?
Any hot tips?

if you drain the system its worth priming the master by bleeding it out at the unions on the cylinder first then bleed the brakes in the normal way through the nipples at the brakes. I just open the rears and pump a resevoir almost empty top with clean and pump that through then do the same on the fronts.

 Re: Changing brake fluid
Do I need to get somebody to open/close the bleed nipple as I pump the break as suggested here: http://www.ehow.com/how_2111457_change-cars-brake-fluid.htmlOr can i literally open the nipples and pump?

 Re: Changing brake fluid
The risk is that one person can't see when all the air is out or not. It is a 2 people operation.

 Re: Changing brake fluid
no its not And how can the assistant see the bubbles in a steel pipe anyway? Use that little gizmo, you can usually position the lot so you can operate the break(sic) pedal by hand while peering under the car to see what's happening at the rear. Its really efficient hook it up, open nipple pump 1/2 a resevoir through, close nipple, repeat at other rear ( needs less fluid through this time as you are only flushing the cylinder and the pipe from the T piece), then do front. You end up with a rock solid pedal and a flushed system. And no waiting for the glamorous assistant to find her shoes and put on some old jeans etc

My (nacked) lady pumps the pedal looking for a hardy. When hard, she holds the pressure, I open the bleed-screw and maybe more tiny air bubble comes out.

 Re: Changing brake fluid
Get a Gunsons easy bleed, they're cheap and effective. It uses a tyre to force brake fluid through the system. The danger of using the pedal to bleed an old system is that you wreck the seals in the master cylinder; an easy bleed is a lot cheaper than a master. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gunsons-Eezibleed ... 4aa9399187
