The body shells were basically bonded to the chassis though, very bizarre. The biggest problem is the way they rot around the rear suspension, that's where it gets nasty!

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
I thought they were a monocoque vehicle. i.e the body chassis was all one. Many years ago when I used to mend cars for a living, I remember welding whole floor pans into R4's. Never seen a body come off one like that. Every day is a school day.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
spanners, I don't think they were bonded, maybe it's a very heavy layer of sealant between the body and chassis. " The body is held on to the chassis by dozens of bolts, all of which are pretty easy to find." Much like a 2CV/Dyane/best not mention the Ami, etc. We've owned 2 R4s, the first was a left hooker with a 750cc engine which my wife's friend had brought back with her after 4 years working in France. Both of them were great little cars, in fact when we decided to buy a new car in 1980 it was touch and go between a 4GTL and a Dyane... ken spanners wrote: Bugger, both of mine must've been very odd then as they both had chassis, just like the Renault 6. It seems to be fitted to the nose of a non-standard starter motor, but it doesn't look like there's room for a chain around it.

I suspect it's just there for styling purposes. I'm lookin on my phone, so can't see very clearly, but it looks like there's a pipe or a bolt going through it. Certainly wouldn't want that spinning between my legs! x x x
