Post Strip n Dip
Further musing on the state of my 2cv (it's not too awful, just showing signs of a winter on the driveway, salty roads etc) have got me wondering about taking it off the road, stripping it down and getting it all spruced up and tickety-boo, ready for another 10 years of arsing about...

One thing I'm wondering: has anyone on here gone as far as getting the body dipped and stripped? Was it useful/successful?

Furthermore, has anyone ever heard of getting the stripped body hot-dip galvanised before going on to repaint it? Apart from cost, are there any downsides to getting this done?

Duckservice, a dutch 2cv specialist sells galvanised cars/bodyshells for a few years now. They have a lot of experience with galvanising.

Didn't you look at the Volvo PV544 shell I have in the workshop? That has been acid dipped, welded and the Electrophoretically coated.

I toyed with the idea at one point to get a 2CV shell hot dipped galvanised and went to see Duck services in Germany. The issue with hot dipping a shell is that the distortion is huge. All the panels are rippled very badly. It isn't because they don't know how to do it, it is just the nature of the process.

I'd go for the acid dip and E coat and then anti rust wax the box sections very thoroughly. It is a lot of money though.

Here's a couple of pics, cut and pasted from the links suggested by Viking and Tom Duckpower:

Take a close look at the Acadiane body. Obvious distortion. The 2CV body in the big pic looks ok, though.
