 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
Being sold by 2CVGB's "Pre 1970" Registrar. Wonder how much it'll sell for?

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
Yeah, I don't know how he manages to buy and sell so many cars in so little time. He's always got some interesting stuff.

Speaking of "so little time" (and with a connection to Alan), GearboxRick stopped in at my place on Thursday lunchtime - he was on his way to do some work on the Sahara at Alan's dealership (Chiswick), then heading down to his house in Dorking to do some work on an H, before heading to Norfolk for Friday morning...

[quote="toomany2cvs"] to do some work on an H, [quote] Is it just me or does "an H" sound wrong? Everyone says "an H van" but shouldn't it be "a h van"??? Am I right or is it just my accent? Sorry for the off topicness... This is the lengths I'm going to to avoid law revision

Sorry for the off topicness... This is the lengths I'm going to to avoid law revision The general rule of thumb is that "an" precedes a vowel, and "a" precedes a consonant - and whilst the letter "H" is a consonant, it's pronounced with a leading vowel sound - "aitch". If you pronounce the letter as "Haitch", though, "an" would sound wrong. "A horse", "A hospital" "An 'orse", "An 'ospital" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H#Name_in_EnglishQuote: In almost all dialects of English, the name for the letter is pronounced /ˈeɪtʃ/ and spelled ‹aitch› or occasionally ‹eitch›. The pronunciation /ˈheɪtʃ/ and hence a spelling of ‹haitch› is often considered to be h-adding and hence nonstandard I(wrong in the English language). It is, however, a feature of Hiberno-English[2] and other varieties of English, such as those of Malaysia and Singapore. In Northern Ireland it is a shibboleth as Protestant schools teach aitch and Catholics haitch. In Australia, this has also been attributed to Catholic school teaching and is estimated to be in use by 60% of the population. The perceived name of the letter affects the choice of indefinite article before initialisms beginning with H: for example "an HTML page" or "a HTML page". The pronunciation /ˈheɪtʃ/ may be a hypercorrection formed by analogy with the names of the other letters of the alphabet, most of which include the sound they represent.
The non-standard haitch pronunciation of h has spread in England, being used by approximately 24% of English people born since 1982 and polls continue to show this pronunciation becoming more common among younger native speakers. Despite this increasing number, careful speakers of English continue to pronounce aitch in the standard way, as the non-standard pronunciation is still a mark of the uneducated, at least in most of the United Kingdom. The pronunciation haitch followed the introduction of Phonics and was designed to help prevent working class children from dropping the initial H in words such as hospital (otherwise pronounced as 'ospital). Now, about that revision you're skiving...?

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
Edited Sorry about that Rt, good luck if you do bid. It hasn't produced much interest yet has it? How about this instead? Not at all practical but I'm strangely drawn to it. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Classic-Sowiet-Car-Volga-Gaz-M-21-1965-/320643477102?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4aa7d72e6e
