Ok why is it that everyone drives at 18mph through slush? Out delivering presents this morning and it took us about 45 minutes to do 10 miles.

Isn't it nice to have the roles reversed James? :D
I spend all summer with impatient types racing past me only to get stuck behind the car in front of me, which somehow seems to them far better than being stuck behind a 2cv.

The 12-hour journey was a parade of crashed vehicles... 80% of which were BMWs.

Is it mere coincidence that all BMW's are rear wheel drive? Or that many are driven by usually office bound types? Or a possible deadly combination of the two.

Not all BMWs are rear-wheel drive, there is the BMW Half-Series, better known as a MINI :? should be called MAXI ;) Then there are those BMW X thingys that are 4x4, but seeing as you reported about some Muppet deciding to turn around in a Mitsubishi "W@nker" Pejero the other day, Old-Nail, then clearly it's not the vehicles at fault :geek:

It was BMWs that were going 18mph too... Agree about the fake 4x4 thing... In the first lot of snow earlier this month I saw a Nissan Terrano thing stuck on a mild incline which the C3 managed to get up fine. They just bring a false sense of security.

Modern cars are generally poor in the snow due to their wide and very-high-pressure tyres. BMWs are particularly bad due to the perfect-storm combo of RWD, high-pressure tyres and (dare I say it) ignorant drivers.

(Back in the winter of 78-79 (v similar to what we have at the moment) my dad had a BMW 528. He reduced the pressure in his tyres and put half a dozen big concrete paving slabs in the boot. That helped.)

In parts of Europe where snow is an issue, drivers are obliged to use winter wheels, which are thinner, use a very different tread and are lower pressure. That helps to keep them out of the ditch!

A few years ago a friend of mine spent a couple of years working in Hungary. Many that sported a BMW in summer would still have a Trabant in the garage for when the snow came - the combination of light weight, low power and thin tyres was much appreciated - sound familier ?

Below is the intelligence of the average BMW driver. Can you spot what's wrong?

Hahaha. Most 1 series drivers still think they have a frontwheel drive car :)
