Blowing your horn is no damn good at all.
I dont give a flying f*ck how loud any-ones is.
Being of the " 'biker nature" I always drive with my headlights on ... [OK laugh ... :P [and b*ll*cks] to you too] ..... but I believe in "be seen"] .... :|
So there's no exuse for not seeing me .... :|
I find a gentle "bip-bip" and the gesture of "Pull over mate  ,get out  and lets sort it out"   " always works .. :|
At least,it satisfies the "Caveman Instinct" in me ...... :|
and being a 'biker type .... no-one argues with me [or ... maybe ....they have'nt YET :!: ] ..... ;)

T. ;)

Apart, of course, from them not having actually looked?

or if there blind

i rode a bike for about 14 months in all weather (including snow!)
i always always had my lights on, and always full beam as they where brighter but not bright enough to dazzle people, i had a red bike, yellow helmet, and bright blue jacked with reflective bits on, so going round a very busy roundabout, and what pulls out a meter, yes a meter not exagerating, in front of me? an unmarked doctors car (had a siren on top!) nearly sent me flying for 6 if i hadnt of braked, and even after then he hadnt noticed me
i so many times have been in that situation, where people dont look, and then a doseing of the horn maybe will remind them to look next time!!!

I've got a normal 2 tone air horn, wich is good for horning to people who annoy you. At least they think you're in a big car.

I've wired it up such a way I can swap between the normal horn and the air horn. I use the standard switch.
Therefore I placed a on-off-on/threeway switch on the dash.

Not actually looking .....or "if they're blind" is'nt excusable .......a reason? yes,but an excuse? .... NO

James ......I have been riding 'bikes for over forty years now,I've also been driving 2CV&Dyane's for 37 years .....[covering at least 300,000miles in "A" series cars, and I cant even start to add up the miles I've done on 'bikes].

My attitude is [ and maybe I'm being paranoid & over cautious here] is that Everyone is out to get me .......every time I go on the road ......[whether it be in my 2CV,my bike or my C4]

So far [touches wood ...] .....my theory seems to have worked.

One instance which did serve to "educate some-one" [I hope] ......  was an old bloke who pulled out in front of me in an imaculate Rover2000/3500 .....he never looked, and made no attempt to stop. Fortunately,I was only doing about 15/20mph at the time [it was in a "30 - built-up area"] .....and although I could have stopped,I made sure that I did'nt ......[not quite] ..... I rolled up to his door and hit it full on with my front wheel at about 4or5 mph.
He [hopefully] learned two lessons that day
1. Look .....
2. It's blo**dy expensive getting the door straightened out on your previously "pristine" Rover ....
Far more effective than a blast on the horn [methinks] ...he would've forgotten the blast of my horn within a few days,he'd hopefully remember having his pride & joy dented, and having to pay out to "fix" it for years ...

drive safe, ride safe .....and just because you aint paranoid it does'nt mean that they aint out to get you.

Terry.
