You are an amazing bloke, it seems, old nail, and if there was an award for best contributor on here I'm sure you would be my favourite to win 8-)

All fascinating stuff, Old Nail.

I've seen Derren Brown 'explain' some of his tricks, the type where he 'persuades' someone - without them being aware - to choose a certain card/box/number. He replays the video showing what he'd actually said during the performance with the use of 'sound-a-likes' a bit like your "By now..." example. I don't actually know, however, if this explanation is also part of the act; by trying to show how he 'could' have done it, he might actually be pulling us away from what could be a much simpler explanation/trick... :(

Anyways, now, "What on earth was she doing at that club?" :P :P :P

She had just left her steriotypical 'homicidal Glaswegian husband'.
Her friend had persuaded her to have a night out in this 'great bar' she knew.

It was a really odd place to be, but then people are really odd anyway. Without exaggeration there was trouble there every single night, and it became self perpetuating. A bit like the old gunslinger thing, the reputation of the bar attracted idiots from miles around. But here's the curious thing, it also attracted lots of 'normal' people who would come knowing that there will be trouble, and were here to watch!

Old Nail .. Customer cybernetics explained in the best terms yet..

Yep. It's similar in principle Tree, but with NLP you can also read 'moment to moment' in real time as things change. Much more useful than just entering with a set of precepts, as although people do have a primary representational system they also utilise the remaining two to a lesser degree, which are the auditory, and the one I haven't mentioned which is Kinaeshthetic - the one of 'feelings'.

The problem I find with set principles such as Pscho-cybernetics is that they aren't as fluid, or as flexible to adapt to instant change such as that which might occur in the environment that I worked in. Add the consumption of drugs and alcohol to the mix and the 'customer' often doesn't even know what he's going to do next...but I did. ;)

As I've said previously I initially spent years studying a subject that in the end told me nothing, as I was concerned with why people did what they did. Once I stopped worrying about the why's and accepted that such behaviour was just a given, then I simply learned how best to control it.

There is also a non-psycho babel way of getting a result when trying to assess people or to make a successful sale - the use of open and closed questions is wonderfully effective without the need to study body language etc...the example of the Hi Fi shop would have gone much better if the sales guy had asked an open question first, rather than suggest his own preference..."what are you looking for?" then narrowed the potential client down with some closed questions to get the punters preference..I know that this doesn't always apply in a shop as often in chain stores the sales guys have incentives on certain products and they will always steer the punter towards these ones..its good fun to engage with shop assistants who have been on certain sales courses that use psychological training and throwing them off the scent by saying something off the wall.."but you are not supposed to react like that" etc..

What's the concensus here?

Today, I went into town and bought my missus a pair of (bastard expensive) boots that she's been after for a while. It was a small business, which I prefer to support, as opposed to buying things from the internet or big chains.

Now, the matey beind the till who served us, bit of a fashionable type, silly glasses and a silly haircut, jeans three sizes too small. He entered the price into the card machine but accidentally entered a price £30 less than the actual price. I mentioned it, and he thanked me, apologised and then re-entered the right price.

Am I:

A: Honest

B: Stupid

?

your honest and stupid

its the kind of thing id not say, spend weeks feeling guilty,
or if i did say, feel weeks of stupidty, swearing at myself!!

its a loose loose situation morally for me

i once got so angry, i was at the festival of speed, with 2 mates, a guy in front bends down, picks up a 20, looks round with a very guilty face, and me and my 2 mates, we just look at each other in disgust, calling each other names, you know, why didnt we notice that!! afterall it was only a meter away!!
incidently found a 20 at where i used to work, said to my now ex boss is this yours, without a doubt, counting it etc, yep thats mine.
i walked away ashamed of myself!!

250 your right, the hole world does a big fat S hit on each other which doesnt help!!!

Well me man you is definitely honest and definitely NOT stupid..........But had i been in the same position i think i might have not done the same as you.BUT as you know being a shopkeeper meself i have a conflict of interest. Dont forget any "small" shop that uses a card machine is paying about 5% to the card crowd(banks) and is just as much part of the system as a large multiple. I hate the jungle dog eat dog world we live in but i spose its all to do with personal honesty.i guess end of day when you reach them pearly gates its in your favour....so you dun right!!!!!!!!
