Post Vacations in Scotland in 2011 (after Salbris 2011)
Hey Guys,

I'm preparing my vacations for next year :)
The main idea is to drive to Scotland with my 2CV & my family (my wife & my 2 sons). I'm currenlty working on a trailer to save space into the car & enable us a 4 (or 5) weeks trip :)
You can follow the trailer project here: http://forum2pattes.forumactif.com/breves-de-comptoir-f1/le-projet-nazkar-t56814.htm?highlight=nazkar.
The basis roadbook is : Paris area -> Calais -> London -> the borders -> Edimbourg -> Glasgow -> Stirling -> High lands -> Isle od Skye and ... drive back to France

I'll keep you informed about my progress and should request your advices for places to see in Scotland.

Regards,
Hutch

If you are going to the border country, have a night at Kelso where we had the World Meeting in 2005. Lovely town and very warm and welcoming people. Well worth a visit.

For me the west coast of Scotland you almost can't go wrong, Glencoe, Oban, Fort William, and I haven't found an island there I didn't like! Skye, Coll, Tiree, Seil, Mull.
You'll have a great time its beautiful. But bring your wellies just in case! :D

Nice trailer you're building by the way.

get on to the Avon cosmetics site and order some "skin so soft" its a cheap moisurizer that smells like cat piss but highly effective against the highland midge

This is indeed a top tip. Went to Canada a few years ago in June, mega midges. All the locals also recommended Avon Skin so Soft.

Seems that its been so successfull they have started to actually market it as a repellent
on amazon here

not the first time the enterprising Avon has done a u turn

they actually started out selling the works of Shakespere door to door and the cosmetics were an insentive gift, poor book sales and increasing turnover of cheap cosmetics being touted door to door and a new business model was born

I have been to Scotland in 2009 with my 2cv. Done 4000km there without one problem.
Very beautiful, my personal favour is the west coast and Isle of skye.
And off course John o' Groats, not the most spectacular but it is just fun to say you have reached the most far point in Scotland.
We also get 'skin so soft' from a local, and it is the only product that does the job against the midges.
And don't forget the whisky there.

Another vote here for Avons Skin So Soft. Works a treat against midges.... it may smell of cats piss, but that's better than Deet in my book. I've yet to find a repellant for Horse Flies though. Also watch out for Ticks, they can be a bugger if you're camping.
