Bored with, Joe ... :)

That was a bad one. i've been reading journals all day for this dissertation bullshit, and you would be surprised with how many mistakes make it through to publishing. Environmental science is my area of study, English just happens to be what i'm supposed to be writing it in and unfortunately it usually takes a back seat. :(

That's what my degree and M.Sc. are in. Much good it did me, now I'm driving a lorry for a living. Where are you studying?

I don't even want to think about jobs, i just want to get this out of the way and travel around a bit. Studying at Plymouth, doing a pathway in biodiversity and conservation. I think i will just do some volunteer work and maybe some WWOOFING. Anything to pass the time really!
Where did you study?

Wolverhampton, back in the days when it was a polytechnic. And a very good polytechnic it was too, even if it has turned into a third rate university these days. As I say though, the only letters after my name that have been the slightest use have been "HGV 1". :) Although that's more of a reflection on me than the usefulness of my degree.

As Cliche' as it sounds, I think, in all honesty, that i will get much more out of being at university in the way of life experience than a useful degree. I don't know if anyone will agree with that statement but that is just how i feel. I will take any job i get, so long as i am happy in it. Also, someone has to do it!
Being at university is like being on the dole, except your parents are proud of you for it!

Wise words ... the life experience bit of a degree is far more important than the actual facts that you learn. I can remember approximately bugger - all about environmental science, but in terms of teaching me how to think critically and how to drink eight pints in a lunch hour, my education was invaluable. :)

Having read that RT, I don't think you're alone. I know plenty of people who went to university, but I know very few who are now employed in fields related to the things they studied.

Part of me also wants to moan about the spelling police on here, but having become a grumpy old man over the last couple of years I actually sympathize with your futile plight to achieve or preserve something that seemingly nobody else cares about.

I like that. 8-)

I think that the value of a non vocational degree to an employer is often the indication that you are responsible enough to, and capable of sitting down and studying for a given length of time, and that you therefore possess the discipline that is desired.
