Right 2 questions really, i fancy getting a CB radio for me wagon, and want a helping hand, ie what set to buy, areal (or a complete set, )id rather not have the ariel fixed, id quite like to remove it when not using it, but i want a decent range aeirel, but i want a cheap set

considering getting an inverter in my 2cv, now, im not going to be powering my house up, so i wont need one with to many watts, i know what make i want, but suggestions on how many watts a 2cv can take if that makes sense, ie would a 1000w 240 inverter be ok

Can't help you with your choice of rig, me ol' rubber duck, but the inverter bit is simple 'rithmetic.

An inverter will not be 100% efficient (ie: there will be losses in the process, so power out will be less than power in), but let's just assume 100% efficiency for this example.

To get 1,000 watts out of your inverter, you'd need to put 1,000 watts of power in. How many amps drain will this be on your battery? It's as simple as 1,000 divided by 12 (volts) = over 83 amps.

Yep, 83 amps.

Your headlamps (around 45 watts each?) take around 8 amps. Get the idea? Your battery will go flatter than a flat thing very, very quickly. Waaaay under an hour. After 15 minutes, it'll be unlikely you'll be able to restart your car. If you do get it started, the drain on your charging system will be incredible if you keep the inverter on. I doubt your car would run for long.

What do you want it for? If you can get 12V equipment instead, then you are much better off using this directly from your battery.

How powerful an inverter could you realistically have? I think a ballpark figure would be around 250 watts at 240V, and even this would take 20 amps from your system...

150w should do what you want and not drain the battery too much.

Er, I presume you're kidding about the 13A sockets...

I'd personally stick a fused ciggie socket safely mounted - but hidden (they're ugly) - under the parcel shelf.

Actually, the ciggie socket would be a good way to power your CB unit too - so's you can remove it after every trip. Not something you want stuck in there on display.

Hmm, fair enough - you could wire it directly - but with an in-line fuse mounted as near the battery as possible (this way it protects the cable as well).

Ciggie socket - provided the supplying wires are hefty enough - should easily be ok for 15 amps I'd have thought. I guess you want to wire the inverter in permanently?

ive just ordered 6 mini inline fuses (up to 30amp) for a total of £8.75. bargain!!
i fuse everything in my car that i put in, just incase, im removing the old fuse box and replacing it with 4 of the inline fuse holders i bought a minute ago, as i had a problem with a dodgy connection the other day and the wipers packed up in heavy rain

I got a 'b stock' Midland unit from maplin and then a 4th ariel, 4meters of cable and a aerial mount from 4x4 cb. I wired it into my cigarette socket.

i wouldnt mind one that i could have plugged into the amp and speakers i put in my car so i could hear it!

im looking to spend around £50 for a complete set, or am i being a tight bastard again?
