Try getting a bit lost and ending up on an Autobahn... Well I don't give a rats ass about people behind even on German stress roads. Here is an interesting story from last summer. Left southern Germany (Aachen) 8 am heading for Puttgarden (ferry to Denmark) roughly 625 clicks. Refueled my Ami 6 every 300 and came across some Scandivains in one of them speed machine heading the same direction. Being on French black plate, they didn't know that I was a Dane and I didn't say anything. Well at the end of the day, who rolled up and parked behind me waiting for the ferry. The Norwegians couldn't believe that I got there before them. I enjoyed the ride and saw everything around me, no stress.

Don't get me wrong it's not really the speed that annoys me when I drive to work the average speed limit is 40/50 with a small 60 stretch, my van will do that no problem, the thing I wouldn't like is the lack of pull up a hill, that's the only thing that puts me off

I properly want this. I'm guessing by the advert it's road legal and driveable? I wonder what a fair offer is? €150? €1000? €3000? Prices are all over the show at the moment. I could see me pottering to work in it though. I think prices will be going only one way with the coming recession... and it isn't up. 2CVs are not the sort of car that the very rich will be interested in, so there won't be so many chancers looking to take advantage of the spare cash that many people have had for the last 10 years or so. Just my opinion...

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
Interesting you say that. I've been watching the same three almost identical trabants continually relisted on eBay recently. All in very good condition around £1000. So far no price drops, but surely it won't be long? I do wonder if 2cv price bubbles will burst soon. I hope so, I know values are theoretically good for the cars, but not I fear for the 2cving way of life. Not mine anyway. I can't afford to do the same rebuild I've just done now, and I couldn't afford to buy the same car if it was on the Market. I really don't know who these people are that can afford or justify £1500 scrap cars, especially as they're not even hard to find.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
I don't really see why 2Cvs will drop much in value. It isn't like people have been buying them speculatively in the way Aston Martin's and E types were bought. The vast majority are dirt cheap anyway. Even a well restored van at 18K Euros is arguably cheap if you look at the number of man hours that go into doing one really well. When I built my grey one, which had already been part restored and was largely complete, I walked out of Cassis 3K Euros lighter having bought a few bits and pieces. I actually quite like the 425. The engines are sweet. My mum used to drive us back and forth from the UK to Holland and back in a 2CV 4 without any bother at all. As 250 AZU says, it's not speculative buying that's affecting prices, it's supply and demand (for top condition vehicles). Prices are going up because there are people out there who want to own a 2cv and want one that is in excellent condition. Because prices are rising for top condition cars, then naturally it filters down and increases prices of "sheds". It's simple economics.

Err, to quote the ending of the Terminator movie: "There's a storm comin'!" We've been largely sheltered from the economic recession of the last 2 years. The new reality will be much harsher. 500,000 public sector jobs down the swannie is not going to be absorbed by private sector activity, at least not without a significant delay of, say 2 years at least... unless there's a war effort to contribute to!! When people are more concerned with keeping their jobs (that pay less and less every year) amid rising prices for the important stuff (food, fuel, higher taxes and fewer benefits) then prices will drop for the type of things that they used to spend their money on... alternatively the market will stagnate. Simple economics. Like I said, just my opinion...

Smiffy wrote: unless there's a war effort to contribute to!! That ruse worked in the 1930's didn't it? Was Hitler any worse than our ally Stalin? Poland was invaded simultaneously from both directions y'know? I was speaking to a 2cv specialist recently who told me that he was shifting every 2cv he could get his hands on, and quickly. I remarked that even in a recession the enthusiasts must keep him going then? His reply was that "Oh No, they're not 2cv folk that are buying, they're new people coming in.... I don't sell anything to existing 2cv-ers, they all tend to be tight bastards". Given that his statement was a personal observation rather than a denigration, those forcing the price bubble may yet still have reserves of disposable income to keep doing so, or if not disposable income, then comfortable pensions.
