I think you'll find that a lot of "stuff" that could be done just a few years ago, can no longer be done at 2cvGB events. Two quick examples are:- Firework display(Bicton and Worcester were amazing). Bonnet sledding(good fun, if you fancied it).

I'm with Devils Advocate here. There's ninnies everywhere, just as there are seriously amazing people everywhere too. Britain is not full of bad people any more than France is. It's just different, that's all.
Imagine this: I was once in Germany, and I took to putting the world to rights with my German hosts. At one point (ironically, I was half-cut by this point) I moaned something along the lines of "Britain's full of binge drinking hooligans etc etc..." My hosts heard me out patiently, and then said "yes, but zat is what makes it such a fun place! Europe is so boring, with people sipping a little beer here and there in dull bars (making effete little sipping gesture). It is SO awful! Only in Britain do ze people finish work and go to ze pub all tired, and zen in two hours zey haf drunk so much zat zey are jumping on ze tables and singing and going nuts. It is such fun! Long live British drinking! Prost!!" Suddenly, I saw that Britain, to many people, is an exotic place that fascinates, just as other countries are to us.
Vive le difference!

not quite.

There's no hard and fast rules saying you can't do things. It's a case os risk assesments and what insurers will cover. 99% of the time, it's a desiscion made by the organiser who's worried his/her insurance won't cover certain things. Whenever we've had a go with the bonnet sledging it's been stopped either through our own choice or becase the field's a bit too full and we're likely to mow somebody down (sadly missing out on comedy gold).

H+S Isn't the fun stopping modern evil that everybody seems to think. It's blamed for a lot, and hugely misunderstood. People are still free to do as they wish most of the time, however, that said, yes, I have been affected by the HSE and that in part is why I no longer work for my last employers.

Too right!! Reminds me: a mate of mine lived in the "bush" in Zambia for 2 years. He told me that barter was the main currency of exchange... and specifically the barter of beer. Here's how it worked: you give me a new wing for my 2cv, and I swap it with you for say, a crate of beer. But (here's the nifty bit) rather than take it home, you'd then proceed to share the crate with me there and then! Result? Everybody wins!

Yes I know, but within the jest is the germ of truth.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm looking through rose-tints. I'm not saying this country is wonderful in all respects - jeepers, not at all. But it does have plenty wonderful places and wonderful peeps.

Again Da that depends on individual perception based on one's life experience. There are undoubtedly some wonderful places to live in England, but they are usually defined by the unaffordability of their house prices.

I really don't go for the Daily Mail agenda. I hate that. If fact I think it causes much of the problem - it makes people feel and act in a suspicious, negative way - always fearing and expecting the worst rather than looking at the good.

Isn't it actually a case of don't shoot the messenger? Again geography plays a part. To someone living in Lower Biddulph, or Salesbury-Wallop or wherever these places are with a cosy twee name and matching existence, the stories of uncontrolled immigration or drug wars and shootings may sound like seditious lies. To the occupants of the towns that have had their communities changed beyond recognition in the space of a few years not so. I truly believe that you need to walk a mile (or two) in the other man's shoes before arriving at any final judgement.

It makes me very sad to hear such downers on Blighty. I suspect British folk are the best in t'world. You've got to look past the dregs and cast you eyes over the majority - perfectly decent folk. And amongst them will be the most gentle, heart-warming, witty, bright and amusing people you will find anywhere.

I agree. In fact only the other night I tried to cast my eyes past the thieving dregs that were trying to rob my house and steal from me, unfortunately I totally failed, and my gentle heart warming appeal for them to leave me alone fell on deaf ears - so I hospitalised them.... Seems to have to worked. ;)

Ken great photo, just like the street that I grew up in. :D
