well its only in one place, in the middle, in a about 7mm wide place, its rusty there, yer, because the water used to trickle out very slow, after driving it in the rain for 2 mins it would be wet, but now its dry,..

a local tool shop supplier, the guy normally sells it at about 30 quid for 5 litres, and he said for me hed do it for 20 quid, then he went upstairs to get it, and offered me a 5l can for 10, so i bought two.

now why it was only £10, because a load where damaged when being unloaded, as in they had small dents in, it was still sealed, (i made sure!) and had 5l in as should do, so i bought 10l. if anyone local wants me to get hold of some cheapish for them im happy too!

well with mine, the water would come into the windscreen surround, and leak out into the cab

That's VERY unlikely to be the rubber not being thoroughly sealed onto a solid steel surround. Far more likely to be due to a damaged seal or a rotten surround - or knackered wiper spindles, bent vent flap, rotten bonnet hinge etc etc...

qwll my vent flap is not straight, but it doesnt leak through there, and neither the wiper spindles...

Well it's been a while but I promise I haven't been slacking.

I've been painting and it's been a bit of a challenge.

The main problem I had was orange peel. Lots of orange peel. The man from Del Monte would have been proud.

The final improvement was made by using some proper top quality high gloss thinners.
I'd now thoroughly recommend blowing the extra tenner on top quality thinners.

Cheap thinners are only good for cleaning out the gun afterwards, the best results do come from the good stuff. If you sprayed heavy orange peel the causes are most likely to be the paint viscosity was too thick, air pressure set too low, or the fluid control set to allow too much paint through.

For a gravity gun (cup on top) I used 50 psi at the compressor, which when accounting for airline losses gives you around 40psi at the gun which is fine for my non hvlp set up. I've never used hvlp.

It's also important to set your guns air pressure before you fill it with paint. You do this by reading the dial on the compressorwith the gun's trigger pulled, so if you want to set it at say 35 psi, you pull the guns trigger momentarily' while looking at the dial and adjust the compressor till it reads 35psi with the trigger pulled. Most hvlp guns still need around 30psi at the gun even though they claim to use only 10 or so at the fluid tip.

If you didn't do this then chances are the air pressure was too low resulting in the orange peel.

Having said all that you will still be able to get a fantastic finish by flatting back and buffing out later, but of course the less flatting you have to to get that finish do the easier it is.

The car is looking very good, I like the colour too as I've never seen it fresh from the can, as you say they are mostly faded examples that you see these days.

I feel slightly daft that I never thought of doing that. I've been setting the air pressure whilst blasting paint at a scrap door. What a waste.

I wondered about that and searched the net for ages trying to find an answer. Finished up working it out by trial and many, many errors.

You're about bang on the money there. Mine's a gravity fed HVLP and that's about where I finished up. Eventually.

Absolutely. And it's bloody hard, relentless work flatting the worst bits back. It's coming on well though.

Reckon with a bit of luck I'll have the whole shell gleaming by about March.

About 115 ish and I don't think I'm anywhere near halfway through yet. Still got every panel, interior, engine and chassis to sort. :)
