Post Re: previous A-series
I had one (I'll see if I can dig up a picture tonight), a charlston in grey but the colours were seriously worn so I sprayed it in matt Renault Vert Armee, with matt black detailing. I loved it.

Post Re: previous A-series
more bilge..

after losing my way for a bit & not running an A-series after the cuivre indien (which incidentally was sold to fund hydraulic suspension & 100 spoke full chrome wire wheels on my 1969 Vauxhall Viscount 3.3) i did own my old mans old red spesh during this period - still do (watch out for it in a field in the coming months) I decided i wanted to go to Kelso for the world meeting - i dug my dads car out of the garage, stuck it in for an MOT & used that. It was while i was there i came to the conclusion i needed an A-series that i could use on a regular basis without having to feel too guilty, so the search began...

Fast forward to March '06 & this appeared on eBay:

I have always liked Cote d'Azurs & when i spotted this i contacted the guy flogging it - seemed to sound fairly reasonable, had a few new parts & was used on a regular basis... I stuck a bid in (way over what i should've paid in hindsight) & consequently won it. Picked it up from the Bournemouth area. I later discovered it appeared on the video for the '99 Bicton International (is that really 10 years ago?) Another thing i found out is if you 'google' Cote d'Azur , click 'images' its the first picture that appears!

As usual it wasn't long before i brought it closer to terra firma:

Think i sold it in December '06 via 2cvtv - it was bought by an older gent (ex solider) who was living in Germany & bought a Dyane new when he was stationed there in early 80's... He ran it for about six months, Eleanor bought it back off him & then later part exchanged it with Gary Dicks for his old AKS 400 weekend, AFAIK Gary still owns it.

Wasn't 1987, it was built on 22nd May 1986 (my sister's 3rd birthday:)). Tell us more though!

Sorry 1986 i can't remember  much about it but it was a Q reg, Q520 YRX she was built in France and then exported to Spain and then to England and suprisingly right hand drive. Had very fond moments in that car. :( My brother was going to do the work on it but later lost interest so did dad and it had failed its Mot on quite a bit but the main problem then was to re-chassis it.

I had that car about 5 hours.
Bought it, drove it to my friend and sold it. It was winter time and really, really slippery.

Post Re: previous A-series
Here's my history of "A" series ownership .....

My first A series was XOE167J ....a 1971 Dyane4 .....we bought it in 1973,both my wife & myself leaned to drive in it.
Image
Image

XOE was replaced in 1975 by JWB229N .....a brand new Dyane6. this was the car which really got me into twin pots and over the years it began to get "personalised" .....sadly,I have few pictures of it ......but heres a young me [early 1980's] .....
Image
....note the go faster stripe ....it also sported a bootlid painting ....
Image
......the mural was done in the about 1979,and was prob'ly one of the first examples of bootlid art in 2CVGB ....[I joined 2cvgb in 1980]

JWB was joined in 1988 by E102XKY ....which is still my present 2CV ....
Image

By 1990,JWB was showing signs of her age .....a quick "blow-over" with the spray gun one Saturday morning while I was bored had her looking a lot better than she really was ....so in '91 she was joined by LWJ98W .....a blue Dyane.
Image
.....JWB kept going for another three years though, before finally dying of a broken chassis in 1994 .....RIP .....JWB229N ....where-ever you are now ....
My wife finally sold LWJ on in 2000 .....she wanted something bigger/faster .....she settled for a Direwoo Matitz :o  .....[have any of you ever wondered why I hate Matiz's so much?]

Anyways :| .....to replace JWB in '94 .....YEY302W , a 652cc Visa was purchased, somehow,we never took to her,and after an abortive attempt by our daughter to learn to drive in it,it was sold on....in '97
Image

Which brings me up to date .... E102XKY had meanwhile become TBZ6829 ....
Image
.....and before any smart*rs* jumps on me for the vanity plate ... :P
Image
....its one of a matching pair I got real cheap .... ;) ....OK 8-)

There were other "A" series too ......a green Dyane,an Orange Dyane & an orange 2CV .....all of which the numbers escape me and I have no photos, none of them lasted much more than a few months though before being broken for spares.
And thats my [2CV] motoring history for the last 38 years.....a total of some 300,000+ miles

best regards
Terry

I've had 3 in all.
Here's my first:

Ran it from 82-90, when the chassis collapsed. Stored it in a barn awaiting a new chassis but bro binned it whilst I was away.

My 2nd was an A-reg Charlston. Didn't like it too much, so I only kept it for a year before replacing it with a 1975 Saab 96... Have no photos of this 2CV, although it was featured in Top Gear when I came to sell it (in 91? 92?), much to my eternal embarrassment.

Here's my 3rd:

Bought in 2002 from an army barracks in Leicestershire (ad said: "new posting forces sale"; in other words he was off to invade Iraq!). Spent 7 years in a barn whilst I spawned children and worked hard. Still have this one. Of the three, this is easily the best.

I am liking white wheels with dark centres, it gives an almost white-walls look without the expense.
I wanted to do that on mine but found it too fiddly so I sacked the idea, I wish I had done it now.

Those wheels were pretty daggy this time last year, so I just resolved to sort out one per week, during the dark grotty January nights.
Gave the wheel a good wire brushing, then kurusted it, then hammerited it black (inside and out, with a brush), then did the outer rims white (again with a brush). One step per day. Then I'd leave the wheel for 3 days to harden before putting it back on. I'd have got cheesed off with the job if I'd tried to do it any quicker, but it only took about an hour a day so I managed to stay focussed and committed.

They still look pretty good, 12 months on.
