Post Savoia Mehari
Recently contacted Savoia in Argentina, to see what their terms and prices are for their Mehari, as shown here: http://savoiacars.com/ingles/productos/ ... ehari.html

Here's their answer, roughly translated:
Dear Customer,
Thanks for your interest in SAVOIA products.
The Mehari model (brochure available on the Web) is our signature vehicle, which we manufacture to order and by hand.
The cost can range from US$11,500 - $13,500, depending on the equipment that you select when you place your order, which you choose when we meet to agree the order (or by telconference).

- 12 months warranty
- Production time: 6-8 weeks
- Payment: 60% with order, balance against fax edel B/L
(note: I don't quite understand this last bit, but I assume it means that you pay the balance when the car is finished)

If you prefer the car in kit form, with assembly manuals, deduct US$600.

- The Twin Engine Sahara, also shown on the website, costs between US$18,000 and US$21 000, depending on what equipment you choose. This model will be available by spring of 2010.
The CVT automatic gearbox is with V-belt and pulleys
The cost of shipping in a 20' container would be US$2500.

Way out of my price range, then! :(

Here's the original, for any spanish speakers who might be able to grasp the subtle bits that I missed:

Estimado cliente:

Smiffy,

I merged your post with the Savoia thread we already have running - just to keep things tidy! ;)

Post Re: New Mehari
Lots of people from around the world have written to them, receiving the same answer. I doubt that any of their cars will see rego here in Euroland due to safety etc. I think the entire car is built on already registered cars. If someone buy one it will be a used car and not new. Spoke to their Parisian ‘’dealer’’ who said that a demo model should arrive one day but meanwhile offered their parts for sale. No thanks as the landing prices are still not clear. Freight appears to be difficult subject to handle, I’m sure suddenly we get to see parts or even a car one day. I’m guessing and this is purely my speculation that the world meeting may have a surprise.

I'm sure somebody will bite the bullet and order one, and if/when that happens we will see more arive in Europe, I hope it happens, they offer a lot of interesting parts, and it can only be a good thing to have somebody making parts like this now.
