I have bought the Dinitrol kit

DIN02 KIT

Which is Cavity spray cans and UnderBody spray cans, 1 spray can of rust prevention and the plugs for the holes I make. I have a diagram from them of the points for new hole and existing holes to fill.

I have looked at the underseal and in places it is flaking away. How would you recommend I deal with this? Not a good idea just to cover up the rust is it?

I know I have dealt with this in another thread but trying to make sure I don't mess it up. I seem to go all to pieces initially until I get into the swing of it.

wire brush, then paint either with primer or underseal (i dont know if it needs to go on primed metal or onto bare)

Dinitrol have a 'manual' on the site but I just cant see where they say anything about it, and the car they are treating is mint: http://www.dinitrol.co.uk/retreatment_manual.aspx

Definitely not!

Knotted wire brush in an electric drill (http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=143672), and give it all a good going-over. If there's underseal or paint that withstands the treatment, that's fine. Otherwise, try to get it back to shiny. Then paint. Good paint. I'm using Rustoleum 769 (http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=130594 or http://www.tools-paint.com/product/769_ ... tre_769051).

Once that's all on and dried, then you can wax it. Thoroughly. Expect to have to re-wax the underside every couple of years.

Lovely I'll do that. That seems much more like a proper job. I have some Krust and Zinc primer, it that usable on a chassis? (sorry if I sound a right twit!) Oh and is this Dinitrol Rust Prevention spray any good to me?

sorry for the bumb questions but I've got a heap of rust prevention products and not sure what goes where!

It's probably a case of who's tried what. Have to admit, my general rule of thumb is that if you can buy it in Halfrauds, it's probably overpriced and not actually that good...

Dinitrol, I know, has a reasonably good rep - Craptical Plastics "Best Buy" and all that. Much better than Waxoyl.

Glad I asked on here though as I may have gone for the spray over rust option which would have been a bit stupid now I look at it in the cold light of day.

On the page you link to in your first post they have a product - RC800/RC900 - which is a rust converter. I haven't used their particular product, but have used a similar one - 'Aquasteel', I think it was called - they are all quite similar. The good thing about it is that you only need to remove the worst, flaky rust and ideally leave a thin layer of surface rust behind before treatment. Brush this stuff on, and it'll convert the rust into a pretty tough black iron-something layer (can't remember the actual chemical process...)

That's all the priming it needs - it can then be painted over and finally Dinitrolled...

Ah yes it is Rust Converter, god I am so slow... that makes a lot more sense. I feel better now. Thanks for that.
