head unit & active subwoofer & live feed
ok this may (or my not) be a radical for here but I'm about to fit a new head unit and and active sub to Charlie, don't know if anyone here had fitted an active sub but I am not sure if I should take a feed from the positive on the battery for the head unit and the sub combined or have two feeds from the battery. The head unit is only going to drive 2 small midrange speakers and the sub is not a huge powerful beast. So I shall be running 3 speakers, a head unit and a sub amp with these feeds. Also what would be the best way to pass the feed though the bulkhead? Shall I push the cables through existing holes or drill through a fresh hole Thanks Justin p.s. yea, subs in a 2cv... midlife crisis or what?

Re: head unit & active subwoofer & live feed
Subs in A-series is nothing radical here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Br8GfuMTISIhttp://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1 ... 0476945361I can't be bothered with head units, they seem like a waste of money to me, I just run mine off my iPod. If you're wiring one in though, I'd take a feed from the battery for the head unit with a fuse in, and another for the amp, also with a fuse. In the instructions for your stereo kit it will tell you which fuse you need, or it'll probably be supplied in the boxes. You can splice the ignition live (either yellow or red wire from headunit, I can't remember which) to the ignition switch on the car so that the stereo is constantly live (to keep time/date/track memory) but only switches on when the ignition comes on.

Sorry, also meant to say, drill a new hole in bulkhead and fit a rubber grommet.

Re: head unit & active subwoofer & live feed
Thanks for that.
I have taken the old head unit out and there is just the feed from the ignition, nothing else. Which leaves me a blank canvas. Sony supplied a rubber gromment 4 me to use, so will drill through the bulkhead and stuff 2 cables though.
I considered no head unit but I wanted a radio and a clock and some pretty lights. The head unit has an aux in for the old ipod.
The sub has all cables supplied with fuses in line, which is nice.

Re: head unit & active subwoofer & live feed
live from the battery with fuse to head unit wiring, join the red and yellow together and forget about ignition. just means you have to turn it off each time you leave the car or take the face plate off to stop scum nicking it has the same effect. black to earth
fat live cable with fuse from battery to active sub. blue wire from headunit wiring (remote) to active sub, phonos from headunit to active sub also... black fat earth from sub to body work.
its easy really... just make sure your cable is up to the job or youl soon know about it!

Didn't you once run your amp through the fag lighter?
