Post Crankcase pressure valve
Simple question: Are these worth the money?: http://www.ecas2cvparts.co.uk/valve-cra ... -1401.html

Or should I just get a new breather?

And can someone explain to me, please, how the breather actually works?! When I look through a removed one, I can see right through - no flaps or obvious valves in there. So how does it help contribute to the crankcase vacuum - and how can it become 'faulty'?!

James, there are a few threads on here about crankcase vacuum and how to check it with a home-made gauge which you might find interesting. If you do a search through the 'Technical' section for 'manometer' you'll find a few.

Look here
http://www.pp-2cv.be/FR/News/kit%20repa ... flard.html

No system can cope if/when piston rings are worn allowing compression to reach the crankcase. Do a compression test first and maybe fit new piston/barrel set.

Post Re: Crankcase pressure valve
Just removed my breather (oil filler tube) to get access to the carb. While it was off, I thought I'd try sucking and blowing through the attached air filter pipe to see if this would indicate the condition of the valves inside...

Ok, I can both suck and blow no problem (keep your dirty comments to yourselves, ta much...)

So, does this suggest - as I fear - that my breather is kaput?

If so, has anyone tried the alternative solution of fitting a one-way valve in the pipe to the air filter instead of replacing the whole breather?

Thanks.

1 even a good breather allows you to suck and blow

2 there was discussion at lenght about a boat bilge/shower valve on here some time back or you can get a big foofoovalve from the usually recomended supplier

ya pays yer money ya takes yer chances.

Thanks, Sean.

Ah, so the valve isn't completely one-way?! How the 'ell does it work, then? :?

I've looked at the nice ecas valve, and also recall the post you were referring to - I'll have to track it down again and see if it has been updated: ie, has anyone actually TRIED the valve!

Cheers.
