 Re: Joolz's Red One
There're a fair few bits that need patching, including a couple on the inner wings, and I think a boot floor might be inevitable at some point in the future.

 Re: Joolz's Red One
The window frame is still a work in progress. The brush on primer, (Zinc 182), is a pita. It skins over while on the brush and dries so quick it's impossible to get a smooth finish. And yet it takes at about a week before its hard enough to rub down. I seem to remember Old-Nail saying something about how cellulose primer should be sanded dry because it's porous, HA, that was a non-starter. Instantly clogged paper followed by trying to rub lumps out of it. I'd have had better results trying to rub it down with a badger. So I've been wet sanding it and it's almost ready for some rattle can. Seeing as both sides need doing it would make sense to be doing them both at the same time, while the roof is off and the seats out. The other side has rusted over a smaller area, but has spread further from the rubber, so more of the repair will be visible. This side's going to need to have the little step reconstructing which looks awkward to say the least, I've had a look to see if there's a repair panel available, but it seems only if you want to buy the whole rear sweep, which for £75 I don't. Why doesn't anyone make a panel that just does the bottom of the frame, it's not like it doesn't rust often. So seeing as I'm going to have to make it up as I go along, has anyone got any tips for doing the little step on the corner?

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Thanks for all the interest, . The window frame is finally finished, I say finished, it doesn't show in the pics but the paint match really isn't great, so I may spray it again when I've got some proper paint. This is actually the first time I've done any bodywork and taken the time to try and make it look tidy, so I'll put it down as a learning experience. Obviously I'm not entirely happy with it, the edge of the frame is straight, and I realise now that it should have been slightly curved to flow into the swage line, instead there's a bit of an angle between the two which is only really obvious now it's all one colour. I haven't started the other side, I'm wondering if there are more important things I should be doing. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1935

 Re: Joolz's Red One
It's better than I could do! are you feeling more confident about the bodywork now?
In my limited exerience, red is a total bastard to touch up. Have a look at Louises 'Seth' (I can't remember who owns it now) and although it polishes up well, it's a million different shades. I think the only way to avoid it is repaint the whole car, although i'd imagine some very experienced bodyshop fella could sort it out.

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Respraying out of the same mix is the only way, as i think every mix is slightly different and with red this shows.

 Re: Joolz's Red One
If the shade variation is slight, you can fade it out. Basically you mix more and more thinners with the paint. You start by spraying the repaired area and then spray a couple of coats of ever thinner paint over a larger area. Sprayed thinly it will show the paint inderneath and it hides the colour difference.
