 Re: Yet another red spesh...
I've dropped a bollock somewhere with the springs. just sat the cans on top of the standard ones, and the rear tie rods are way too short. I think I'll have to cut the cans open and take a bit off the spacers I made up. Ah well, glad I noticed before I fitted them, otherwise it'd have been really high, and that would have made me sad.
Old man Higgs is going to try and fit the tyres for me tomorrow, so depending how well/badly the welding goes on the body, I will hopefully find time to swap the front arms from the Ami to the 2cv and modify the spring cans again so I can see the chassis sitting 20mm off the ground (the ride height I'm aiming for. I've started thinking a bit about protecting the fuel tank and axle bolts, and wondering whether it might be an idea to fit a pair of van tanks behind the front seats, for extra long range.
What's the capacity of an Acad/van tank?

Hey man, at least you're not ploughing hard earned wedge into a knackered old xantia with nearly a quarter million on the clock. £200 to sort fucked steering joints and now the rear height correctors gone tits up. That's £135 + vat + fitting. Bank account rape!
At the end you'll have a smart motor that'll be easy to punt on if you loose the love with it.
Have faith mate.

ginger bloke wrote: Quote: What's the capacity of an Acad/van tank? same as a 2cv, 25 litres Thanks. I'm quite tempted to put a pair of van tanks in it. Today I started the welding, I must admit it's not great, and looks like the sort of mess certain 2cv specialists would be proud of. However, I'm not finished so I'm sure I can tidy it up a little. I don't think I'm going to do any more weldig to 2cvs, I'm really not upto it. Hopefully this will get this car on the road for a couple of years though, long enough for me to get the ami sorted out properly. All I managed to do today was get the new panels tacked in, and square the shell up a bit. I'll know how well I've done when I try and refit the door, and the shell to the chassis! Some photo's: I'm not doing any more until monday, but hopefully I can get it fully welded, seam sealed and red leaded by end of play.

 Re: Yet another red spesh...
New tyres on today! (ok, they all have to come off again when I modify the suspension, but I couldn't wait to try them out) That's the new wheel/tyre combo one side with a 125 firestone (deathtrap) the other side, I don't usually like wide tyres on a 2cv, but I'm hoping the combination of lowness, an an old skool wheel will make it look better when the body's on. This is progress for you. The 'new' wheels are about 30 years older than the wheels I'm taking off, yet are 100% rust free and perfect. the younger wheels are, depending on your opinion, scrap! Subtle but hopefully fairly unique. (is that an oxymoron?)

 Re: Yet another red spesh...
Thanks. I'm hoping it'll look even better when the front wing is just covering the top of the tyre. just if anybody is interested, this is the type of car the wheels are from, a peugeot 203.
