 Re: Yet another red spesh...
Just ordered the tyres, I went for 155/60/15 in the end, I chose Yokohamas, because I've had them on my Minis in the past and they are awesome, although they only lasted 300 miles, and were pointless in the wet, they should be pretty sticky in the dry.
The wheels are off to work in the morning for powder coating too. I need to rob the front arms off the Ami (which is almost broken) and once the body's off the 2cv again later this week, I'll cut the rear axle as Ken suggested and bend it to give me a bit of negative camber on the back (I am *all* about the camber at the moment!)
I was away all weekend working with Harry on Normans AKS400, and when i arrived home I had another two big boxes from ECAS, which are the remaining panels I needed to get the car through an MOT. I'm off work thursday and monday and between jobhunting I'll be out in the garage welding them in. I hope to have the welding finished by monday evening and the chassis back under the shell, although these things tend to take much longer than expected!
Thanks again to Simon Crook, who, despite me breaking his race car (sorry!) gave me a set of lowered springs at the weekend. These aren't quite the same as the last set I had though, these are about 75mm long (a standard spring is around 190mm!) so when I put them in the can's today I made a packer up to space them out, and they wouldn't have had any weight on them before the car bottomed out otherwise.
I've no idea what these springs will be like, although they appear to be feckin' hard and will have virtually no travel at all. I don't really need it anyway.

 Re: Yet another red spesh...
Russell, if those are the springs I'm thinking of, you're talking about 'kart' suspension, so make sure you've got no loose fillings before going for a test drive. Also make sure that the springs can't tip inside the canister. Tie rods don't work too well when they've been reduced to half their diameter from rubbing against the inside of the end fittings... ken. Cheers Ken, The springs are spaced from the ends of the cans on some tubes onto which i welded a 10mm thick spacer/washer each end, so the springs are supported across the whole width of the wire and the end of the can, it crossed my mind that as they were so hard the ends of the can may well come adrift, and then I thought to myself, 'Nah, never seen that happen before'... ...then I came home and saw Berties photo. I wore through a set of tie rods before, when I had open cans, i don't fancy doing it again.
