 Re: Joolz's Red One
Thanks, but nothing there that I hadn't already thought of. When I asked how much longer the 5sp is, I meant the housing on the back. I could lift the back of the box over the axle, but I've heard several people say it causes oil starvation problems, although it may not be such a big problem for me as my engine sits quite high already, because of the deep sump. And sorry to disappoint Russ, but if I did move the axle back it would only be by a couple of centimeters so the tie-rods and shocks would be fine and the wheel position would be compensated by the turned arms moving them forward.

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Im in the proccess of fitting an air head BMW to my 2cv with an adapter I bought off the pembleton chap to an LNA box .I am currious about the clutch you use. I saw the clutch plate at the pyrenees rally last year off the BMW powered pembleton , the rivits had elongated their holes before snapping .. Some 2cv driven plates have their circle of rivits closer to the center than others I would heave thought the larger the rivit diameter the better . what route have you gone to save me time ..Every time I came to see you at the french rally I missed you

 Re: Joolz's Red One
I did mention back on page 7 that I contacted the pembleton guy, and although he was helpful he didn't want to sell me one of his adaptor kits. My car's currently fitted with a bog standard 2cv clutch, probably a valeo, it wasn't even new when I fitted it and came with the flywheel. I did consider uprating it somehow, but couldn't find anything off the shelf, so rather than plan for every eventuality, I thought, sod it, I'll change it if it breaks. There's a pic back on page 7.

 Re: Joolz's Red One
joolz & kevin, maybe best to leave the clutch 'as is', so that the weak link in the drive train is the driven plate, not the gearbox? These are much easier to get hold of than certain boxes of cogs...

 Re: Joolz's Red One
As usual he makes a good point, although at the moment it's the tyres that are acting as the weakest link. However if I swap to some 145s I may find the clutches limit.

Having had 145s (Michs, Firestones) on two-pots before, I'd have thought you could go a long way north of 145s before you move the "fuse" up the drivetrain.

 Re: Joolz's Red One
If G boxes are the same, 5 speed being the extra length tacked on the back and it looks like the BMW is roughly the power and torque as citroen flat 4 engines and as I have GSA shafts I dont want a built in unpredictable whens it going to break weak link . Does any one know what clutches the racing boys use ?

Quote: and as I have GSA shafts Ami Super, I presume? G shafts would require your wheels to be moved outboard by several inches...

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Shafts were off a GSA .I fitted a 4 speed G box 1300cc in a Dyane 16 years ago using similar shafts, no problems

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Is there some differences between G series shafts? Timmy changes driveshafts every fuel stop, but I had Spanners 1299cc Dyane, which I drove like a complete twat for several months, and never had any problems...
