It's worth what somebody'll pay for it. If somebody'll PAY £11k, then it's WORTH £11k. Simples. Not quite. Someone may indeed be daft enough to pay eleven grand for a 2cv, but that doesn't automatically make the car worthit. It just makes the bloke a dick. Cost and value are two different things, as many found out in the 80's classic car speculation bubble. So how else would you define "worth" and "value"?

A rough average of what cars sell for. Not what one bloke thinks his is worth.

A rough average of what cars sell for. Not what one bloke thinks his is worth. If one bloke's trying to sell his car for £x, and nobody else thinks it's worth that, he'll have a choice - reduce the asking price or keep the car.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
True, but if there's only one person willing to buy it at £x, that doesn't automatically make every car in similar condition 'worth' £x.
No?

The fact that it has sold for £x doesn't mean it's worth that amount. I might pay £3.00 for a pie at a football match, but I'm fucked if they're worth that much. Under different circumstances a similar item could be found for half that price, which must surely be a better measure of its worth.
