I think he just mean that the 2cv was designed as a farmers vehicle, a work horse so to speak, and as such the restored ones will never see that sort of driving

Great stuff, good points well put. Its like anything, the rarer it gets the more of a specialist interest or niche it becomes - and hence the more polarised the views.

Matt, I'm surprised. I'm a known dunce. Kwikfit change my oil, Daras Rich does all my mechanical stuff and if I need to know anything, I come here.

If anyone shows up to ask 'newbie' questions and sees this thread it doesn't look very friendly. They may well have just bought a 2cv cos it looked cute and want to learn more - like I did.

SAM!

You can't POSSIBLY change it worse than Krap-Fit. My cat could very likely change oil better than them. If you can figure out how to use a bathroom sink correctly, you can change oil & filter - and the amount you pay K-F would buy you the tools.

Im not decrying newbies Sam, especially not you,

we were all newbies once, im decrying open cheque book, car seen as an investment, never drive it, dont understand anything about it other than its a classic car and they are so cute, no idea of the actual true social scene types.

You are interested, have fun, use your vehicles and take part. Job done.

As one of the mods I certainly won't be deleting this. I can't vouch for the others though.

I think the gist of what Matt is saying is exactly how I feel about it at the moment, from what I've seen it's really at it's worst in the UK. The carefree 2cv attitude has been lost and replaced by the mentality matt describes. I think there's a place for everybody within 2cving, and I'd never say that a certain type of person should not have one, I mean, even the most irritating owners have all given us a laugh (even if it's AT them) but those of us like myself that are happy to take a £50 write off, nail some panels on it and have a local yob vandalise it in the name of having a laugh are in the minority. I'm not sure what is happening in other countries but from what I see at 2cv meetings there is much more acceptance between those who have an expensive car they only drive at weekends in the sun, and those who rag the tits off old scrappers. There's much less tolerance in the UK now than there was, I just hope that it changes soon. (any 2cvgb members want to copy/paste the 'dog' argument here?

What's nice is that this turned into a reasoned debate rather than a full on Internet punch up. Well done chaps!

I don't think it was particularly relevant, either.

For the benefit of non-2cvgb members...

* The main event of the year has been organised at fairly short notice this year, due to the original organisers having to drop out.
* The site for this year's has recently decided they can't allow people to bring dogs, since it's a "working" farm with a lot of "exotic"/"rare breeds" animals.
* This was announced in this month's club mag, and a handful of people decided they'd prefer to stay at home with their dog than go to the event without it. Some of them made intemperate remarks.
* The organisers liaised with the site, and the site agreed to allow dogs, with certain (not very difficult) conditions.
* One or two of those who had made intemperate remarks greeted this news with slightly less grace, warmth and gratitude than may have been polite.

That was all. End of. Storm in a teacup. <shrug>

"Volunteer organisers of event not thanked copiously by everybody"
Hold the front page. Film at eleven.
