Post Have you got your waste management certificate?
I've just added a post to my blog concerning the latest bit of weasel faced treachery thought up by my local council.

http://olsnails2cv.blogspot.com/

Imagine the 'fun' that this decision could cause? Don't like a particular garage?...report him to the authorities and have his waste license checked. Private individual selling spares? "No problem sir we'll look into it."

Gawd, and I used to feel sorry for the folks in the Eastern bloc

Having read the info on your post, I suspect this chap wasn't playing nice. The guy down the road from me has a spares vehicle - he's building a kit car. The donor car is under a cover tucked down his drive, nice and tidy.

Now at the risk of sounding like a very middle english 'urbs dweller, if he kept the donor vehicle on his front lawn I think the neighbors would probably take umbrage.

I enjoy 2cv-ing and would love to have a spares vehicle at home, but I wouldn't inflict it on my neighbors by having a semi-dismantled car in view from their properties.

Yes I think it's bad that this legislation can be used for this purpose.

However, I would think it a good thing if next door had a rusting SD5 on their front lawn.

So I don't think those of us with a shed/garage/bedroom/barn full of spares are going to be prosecuted.

If your lawn looks like a breaker's yard be afraid... be very afraid

Double Bugger!

There is the possibility that the neighbours complaints made the council take action of course, it could even be that he's had warnings before prosecution, but the precedent set by the court is bad news.

What it means, as your own comments indicate, is that should a private individual fall foul of his neighbour (for whatever reason), the neighbour might then suddenly decide that the noise from the use of a compressor/drill/angle grinder has suddenly become obtrusive, and if it weren't for you 'handling waste without a licence' the problem wouldn't exist.

We've seen how 'gung-ho' some local councils have already been when wrongly using anti terror legislation in order to snoop on folk who overfill their dustbins, what's the betting there will be more concerted efforts by local authorities in future to remove more 'scrap vehicles' and prosecute those 'handling' them? All in the name of saving the planet...of course.

To those of you NOT in the UK who might not understand this, our local authorities have powers given to them under the premise of 'fighting terrorism' that means they can sneak around checking the contents of our dustbins and trash and handing out moneymaking fines as they wish.

Of course, we also have an unelected leader who (like his predecessor) refuses to let us vote for or against things which affect us and our country, and he actively supports these measures, and all the others we have which are there (of course) to save the enviroment and the planet, usually by slapping fines or taxes on anybody who dares do anything which disagrees with the assumption that our Co2 emmisions are going to kill everybody on earth.

Back to 2CVs now please...

yes!

if i supply tiles/materials/ bathroom suite i can trundle about all day with it, however if i take it to a customer i have to have a Sepa(scottish environmental protection authority) licence to put the packaging back in my van as it has now become trade waste, however the customer puts it in her car and its just household waste

And for those in the uk who do not understand ....
We dont have a presidential electoral system, only the people of Kircaldy could vote for Mr Brown( and only the people of Sedgfield could vote for Mr Blair) And they only voted for him to take a seat in Westminster. It will be the same when Cameron gets in too.....I wont vote for him...cuse i CANT.
