The filleted 2cv also seems to be RHD. The book says they were from Grenoble in 1972, therefore French cars - what on earth could be the story there? Why and how would they have converted the car to RHD?

Now you mention it, it's such a plausible and obvious reason that I should really have thought of that. So, let's recap: The chassis broke, and despite having quite a lot on thier plate with that, they cut all the bodywork off, remounted the engine, found a scrap Slough car to rob the rack from, a scrap Sahara to rob the fan from (why they didn't take it from the Slough or the front engine of the sahara I can only surmise) then set about cutting and shutting the manifold. Or, maybe, the negative's backwards...
