im kinda in the same situation as you there!

im getting a full set soon, and yes oolong... ive gone with toyos cos they are cheap.... im unemployed, my dad works for himself... havent got much money so cant splash out on mich's... which i would but theres no way we can justify 1 tyre for the price of 4 and fitted....

I love michelins, im a big fan of originality, but mine are pretty much past illegal as they are bald from the inside untill the middle of the tread... and wet roads are like my worst nightmare... cornering/roundabouts.... scary.... braking... even more scary... specially when you go from braking and slowing down... to completely locked up front end and cars infront of you.....

but my michelins were like that 6 months ago... when the front tyres had amazing tread and hadnt perished because they were alot older than we thought!

Joe, the Michelin price reminds me of taxation in the 70s, where huge tax rates actually resulted in smaller revenues as people realised there was little point in going for anything better.

Of course, part of the huge price is a result of the pound's devaluation due to the UK's current financial difficulties - you can't blame Mich for everything.

My front tyres (Uniroyals) are needing imminent replacement. Can't decide what to do. Toyo have a good reputation, but I doubt very much they are designed with an old Citroen in mind, whereas it seems clear that most consider Michelins as ideal if you really use a 2CV.

So Toyos - after fitting and balancing, call it £90. I wouldn't want them on the back, I feel they could roll off the tread under fast cornering. Will they last as long as a Michelin? Will they shock the steering more when I hit potholes and bad bumps? Kingpins and steering racks are relatively expensive. Four 2CV tankfuls and there's the price of a Michelin. Or a weekend shop. A pair of good tyres will be on a car for 20,000 miles say, that's about 3 years.

Sean, you say you are trying a set of Toyos. How are they? Is the gearing affected much - my Uniroyals felt to gear the car down a little compared with Michelins, confirmed by my satnav. Not sure if I'd want the car geared up, 4th is quite long as it is. What are they like in the cold and wet?

except that i havent managed to roll one off the tread yet

Much better than Mex F'Stones so far
not as good as the new 135s that were purchased for the 24hr

Sorry mate, that doesn't mean a huge amount to me. I'm not with the 'in crowd', just a forum member hoping for a bit of experience from someone who has a set of Toyos.
