Post AKDyane - Popular continental mod?
We saw quite a few of these in Czech and I have to admit, they do give me a warm fuzzy feeling and a slight shortness of breath
Is there somebody on the continent knocking these out or is it a popular thing to do :?: Looking at the prices of Acadians vs AK400s I can see why it might be tempting to pick up a cheap Acad and give it a 2cv face lift... at the loss of front-end aerodynamics albeit.
I honestly think they look sweeeeet and despite the 'how the hell do I open this door' feeling I get whenever I'm in a Dyane, I really really like them  is that wrong
The other mod we noticed were German 6-lights with ripple bonnets - or is that an actual unusual model of 2cv :?:

I did have a pic of a third one....but I'm looking a little too lusty in it :?

People have been slapping the front ends of 2cv to Dyanes for a long time, even over here, although there did seem to be a LOT of 2cv fronted Acadianes at the WM. I'm not sure why... Quite a lot of them were french registered too, this seems odd as 400's are not exactly hard to find over there - they still crop up for reasonable money & quality of the metal is loads better than what they used to build Acads with.

Getting the front end off a Dyane isn't a 10/15 minute affair as it is with a 2cv, so i can kind of see the benefit of replacing the front panels with those of a 2cv. The other thing with the Acad is that you have more legroom due to the increased wheelbase - so are more suited to sleeping in.

To me i'd either have a AKS400, or buy a Acadiane & leave it with the correct front end.

 sorry Jono, beauty really is in the eye of the beholder I suppose. I do feel a bit guilty in my liking them. I think at the moment I just have van-envy in general.

I think I'd rather keep one as an Acadiane, these things just don't look right.

Get a peg-in-hole seat AK, and you've got near-as-dammit the same length of sleeping space - the bed we built for the 350 fitted the Acad perfectly.

With "normal" 2cv seats in the Acad, the AK would actually be preferable, because you can overhang the mattress over the back of the seats more easily and comfortably. BX seats in the Acad sort that problem, though - base fully forward, tip forward.

(The bed base I built came to about half way up the van side boxes, with a full-length 100cm wide futon on top)

A bit severe Jono...

It is a shame that Citroen never made one. There are distinct advantages of the Acadiane over the aks400, like I can drive one. No mater how many mods I did to the seating in my aks400 I was always too close to drive it any distance. The Acadiane on the other hand is great and went to CZ and back very comfortably.

The down side to the Acad is the access to the engine bay which takes a little longer. The 2CV front makes that much easier.

Having said that I have never seen one of these conversions that looks quite right. Its the shape of the door lines that don't carry forward too well.

Hey ho, each to their own.

Jono was being a lttle harsh - but I agree entirely. The Acad is a handsome beasty and gains nothing except easy access to the points by grafting the 2CV front end on. They look even worse on a saloon though, and aren't as bad as those hateful merc style grill things. Pass the bucket...

The lines and curves of the 2cv front and the Dyane cab are all wrong and they do not harmonise with each other.

TBH, I don't think these are usually done to gain easier access to the fan/points (or loads of Dyanes would have 2cv fronts - and I've only seen one or two that have). Rather, I reckon they're done to make the vans look more like 2cvs. It's just a shame it actually makes them look like the automotive equivalent of Michael Jackson's face!
