 Re: My Red Special
Some nice pottering done.
Wing off, tightened the steering clamp for the second time which is odd. It does have a second lock nut.
Gearbox lid off but not yet back on, for the indent spring.
New roof! Like my old one which was super cool and chequered, but less mouldy! Polished the little alloy pieces while they were off.
Drained and refilled the oil, 20w50 for a change since its getting old.
Drained the gearbox for fresh oil.
Greased king pins and driveshafts.
Soon I will polish it and it will look lovely..

 Re: My Red Special
My little trooper hauled a Welsh Dresser all the way from South Devon to Reading, sticking out of the roof. Also it was full up to the roof with camping things, lots of bottles of local cider, some tools I bought at a market including a great little vice, and a load of plants too. Here it is covered up since I had to leave it out with the roof open for a couple nights before making the journey. I think I amused a lot of people on the A303. I thought better to go that way than the motorway! What an amazing little machine, as usual. All the way down to Devon, all around the place and then I had to inflict this on it to come home. It didn't miss a beat! Attachment:

 Re: My Red Special
Nice looks like a homebuild campervan... A man in the neigbourhood brought a large lathe home in the back of his 2cv. Will see if i can find the picture.

 Re: My Red Special
My friend had covered it over for me. He did such a good job-it absolutely poured with rain and completely dry haha.

 Re: My Red Special
Hahaha. I cut a little slot of course.
In truth only the dresser had the tarpaulin on during the journey home and it was very noisy! Poor thing. It looks fantastic in my kitchen now though once I washed off the bird poo.

Yes those old things are nice. A month ago i bought a french vitrine like this, but i have to find a place for it. It was very cheap at 250 euros, a chipbaord exemple of Ikea would be more exepensive.

 Re: My Red Special
The poor thing still hasn't got it's back seat in and the rear of the car just became a huge mass of stuff that kept being added to! All afternoon sorting that out.
I'm away for a week in it shortly and will pick the seat back up while I'm there!
All rustproofing done for the winter, new mudflaps, fixed a spotlight not working, ran through all the lights and cleaned inside the lens of indicators and stuff. I usually wipe the metal parts of the bulbs with WD40 to help them a bit in wet weather.
Finished fitting the body linings my friend sewed for me. They're very nice. The Velcro isn't holding them terribly well so a spot of glue here and there is needed I think. Not that practical, in cream alcantara haha. But it was fabric I had leftover.
Another thing I finally got around to was remounting the sun visor brackets. I had managed to refit them wrong so they didn't go to the side as they should - after having my windscreen out. It's taken this long to do. Hahaha.
Greased the king pins and driveshafts. Lovely smooth drive home.
