Two new (Toyo) tyres fitted today. Was hoping for a couple of Michelin ZXs, but there are currently no Michelin X or ZX tyres in the UK due mainly to Covid.

Oh that's good to know. I was just thinking about getting Michelin tyres the other day.

Required some welding and a driveshaft boot but passed the MOT this afternoon after failing on Tuesday. I'm not blind to the fact that it will require much work in the not too distant future. The Shetland Islands certainly took its toll.

Does that make yours a Portuguese one like my '89 then?

If so, bloody rust is a pain! Certainly did not help that I OCD polished mine until you could see metal. Didn't think that one through did I, hehe.

Mine needed a new chassis years ago, around 2001 perhaps if I remember correctly. So the original didn't last long.

Yep, definitely a Mangualde built car. I've owned it since April 2002 and it was already sitting on a galvanised chassis. I only paid £460 for the car so you can imagine what the rest of it was like
Wasn't too bad where it really mattered. Floors and sills were replaced during the re-chassis. It was the bits you could see that were not so good. That's why it only cost me £460. I very quickly remedied that with a replacement bonnet, boot lid, hood, front wings, etc. Then a major, multi-thousand-pound restoration in early 2008. If you go back to the first page of this thread you'll see some photos of just a small bit of that restoration.

Post Re: My 2cv
I have it on good authority that a now-retired 2CV specialist in Birmingham was approached by a new customer to give their then 3-year-old 2CV a service and put it through its first MOT (the annual MOT safety test applies to cars when they reach 3-years-old). The 2CV failed on a completely rotten chassis. It was replaced under warranty... for the 3rd time!!!! Yep, the car had had its original chassis replaced at 1-year-old, another chassis fitted at 2-years-old, then a 3rd for its first MOT. My understanding is that the 3rd replacement chassis lasted for many, many more years as the 2CV specialist absolutely soaked it with anti-rust protection in all the right places. It was a Mangualde 2CV.

Post Re: My 2cv
Yeah I don't doubt it at all. The only reason we realised my chassis was done was because the clutch kept going out of adjustment. Lol...

I've had my car since the late 90's, it looked like new and had only 26k miles on it. But I had car polishing OCD now I look back on it, so not only a Portuguese car, but then also one with very, very thin paint..

So a few holes now but the rechassis included floors and stuff and it's not often this kind of work impresses, even years later. But hats off to that gentleman, he was damn good.

So our cars have been similar then. How funny.
