Aaaw, things were going so well. I'm on tour in the buggy and I've just done about 500 happy miles in it but the other day I went over a big pot hole. Immediately had a massive vibration from the passenger side front wheel, but tapping the brake made it stop.

Shocks are not very old at all, a couple years maybe. They look fine.

On Roy's advice (ECAS) I popped off the wheel to check tie rod bolts for safety etc, but all is fine. However, after putting the wheel back on, holding the tie rod and wiggling the wheel, the tie rod ball joint appears to have obvious clicky clonk wear. I guess that's it then.
It started shimmying hard again on a less smooth main road surface earlier so needed care to get home without that. But still feeling great to drive apart from having to avoid bumps on that wheel!

I'm approx 200 miles from home, it's not urgent because I don't leave until Thursday. The question is, get recovered on a flatbed (I do have recovery) or limp the car home to its friendly garage who'll fix it.

If I get recovered I am tempted to send the repair bill to the council.

It's OK, I talked to my boss who will lend me the repair money and I've got recovery, so I'll get it done and send the bill to the bloody council. The roads are peppered with massive pot holes round here.

Also it saves me the petrol money home.

It's just the indignation for the Mighty Deuche having to sit on a lorry. Aaaw.

But maybe we should have a Devon members get together one day when I'm down next. I never get to see other 2cv these days.

Sadly, the council will just ignore it. I ruined a new tyre on the 2CV on a pothole in Staffordshire years ago and have experience.

I've been over in west Herefordshire and mid-Wales (Elan Valley) in the '32 Minor this weekend for the Pre-War Minor Network summer tour. The road surfaces around Leominster and Kington are the worst I have encountered anywhere in the UK. Pop over the border and they are some of the best.
