@edce As I recall the rubber tube was still usable, the flap seal was useless. The cpd valves are v.good but expensive. @roger v Did this rebuild back in 2011 date on photo! Attachment: 5E545D75-9E46-4D44-B558-F5F0CD991F81.jpeg Both.....Send me a SAE will send a 1/2 post card cut off. Cheers

Very interesting solution. I have ordered the repair kit from Ecas. When I get the old one apart I will hopefully get a better appreciation of how it is supposed to work.

@rogerv The diy “reeds” replace the round plastic flapper, if I recall. Got some laser cut alu rings to hold the breather together. See pic. Offered it as a kit at cost price on the forum, no takers:(. The repair and reuse people are becoming a rare breed. Attachment: F2F06509-D123-46B4-BAB4-C371D2BDA54B.jpeg

As you say, not many of us diy left My first attempt was with 3 over centre clips. It worked in principle, but the clips could have been better placed. The seal was mostly working .....

Re: Crankcase breather/Reniflard is it duff?
Update, Burton repair kit from Ecas arrived. Original breather that I replaced a while ago overhauled using the excellent kit, I’ve now fitted it onto the car & tested it with the manometer. What a difference! The readings are so much healthier & no positive pressure from crankcase now even at high continuous high revs. Safe to say I am chuffed to bits, so far. Now will have to see if it has a helped to minimise annoying little oil leaks. I am reluctant to take it on the road for a real test while the salt is still around on the roads, I might not be able to resist for long though.

@Greysnail13 I would be interested to know if it made a difference to performance and if it is quieter.

I installed the breather refurb kit from Burton on two breathers last summer. One of the breathers wasn't even old, it was just a shitty one from a German company I've long stopped buying from. Both the old original one from 1985 and the newish aftermarked one got great values after the overhaul. Of course, the true quality of the kit is first known after..lets say 10 years. If it's not working in 2030, it's not especially good I'd say.

Re: Crankcase breather/Reniflard is it duff?
Thanks for the input guys. I plan to have a run in it tomorrow, I’ll feedback the results, it seems to run smoother & now you mention it Roger it may be quieter, then again could me just inhaling the euphoric essence of a job seeming to go well. I’m an avid watcher of you tube video clips by HubNut, Ian makes me realise I am not the only one to loose nuts, washers etc.. around the garage floor, that’s if I’m lucky enough for them not to disappear in the engine bay. That reminds me must get a magnetic probe of some sort.

I don't wanna link to any specific brand, so instead you can search for "flexible magnetic pickup", and you will find a tool one shouldn't be without. Order where you see fit. Mine is from a proper tool supplier. It's almost 20 years old now, still as new.
