The glass on the roof is 3 layers and you can walk on it. I will have go with a magnet ;-)
@Eirik: I think you are right, i did try this morning so most of the play is in the middle on the steering housing.

Is i have my holyday now i have time to have a go at the steering. I had to go and buy an other puller for the steering arms as my Facom model couldn't fit as the gearbox in it's place. After 3 tries between showers i got all off. All 4 parts had lot's of wear. Together it was a lot. Bronze block were worn on some edges due to the bend sliding plate that let them slant. The top mounting plate had its edges bend by the steering pins. So the wheel stops might have to be adjusted...

I think it a mimic of the Mercedes F1 tow in to warm up the tyres. The steering being out of the car is a sure indicator of this. :D

Well the car is back together again. It took me 1,5 hours to put 6 bolts and 2 nuts in. It turned out that a end of the steering pins was bent. So it turned around when i tried to put the castled nut on. With the help of a thread cutter, a thread file and some brute force i got the nut on. The bronze blocks are now pushed down with the modern rubber block in stead of the little spiral springs. Will have a test drive later as i am knackered from the heat... ;-)
