Post Cleaning engine internals
Hi - I'm looking for a bit of advice regarding and engine rebuild I'm part way through. I have stripped and cleaned the engine down to the block but I'm reluctant to go the whole hog and split the crankcases - primarily I suppose, because I don't want to disturb anything more and I'm nervous about re-setting the timing and re-sealing everything. There's no excess play in the big ends or main bearings, oil pump is good, cam lobes are good from what I can see. I'll be fitting new pistons and barrels and new seals (including new crank seals). Therefore, what is the best way to clean out the inside of the engine to remove any dirt or contaminates that may be lurking within? Can I just slosh some diesel around the inside - ie fill and empty it out a few times or should I bite the bullet and split the cases open? thanks :-) Jeremy
