I would be temped to pour a little fuel in the carburetor throat and see if I can get it restarted. Perhaps give the fuel pump a tap with an extension bar as you may have a grain holding a pump valve open.

I have the filter before the pump to help protect the pump.

Make sure all pipes have pipe clips to help stop fuel draining back.

How much force should I put behind the extension bar? I've done a pump swap in the past and I don't fancy doing it again if I don't need to.

Oh, and as regards a hammer not working on an electric fuel pump, I used to get the SU electric pump stick all the time on my 1961 Minor. A quick tap on the body would free the points and get me going again.

Change the pump and at the same time fit the SPOG studs which will make the job much easier.

I'll do that after I've given the pump a damn good thrashing, as Basil Fawlty once exclaimed. Only joking but it wouldn't hurt to give it a bit of a knock with a metal bar.

i would open the pump it's very easy. Than you can see if there is problem in there. Two bolts and 6 screws.

Whilst your there, check the fuel filter is ok!

Another thought is to fill the tank and therefore raise the level of fuel.

Post Re: My 2cv
The tank was already around half full and I put another £5 worth (at £1.30 a litre) yesterday, as I was checking whether the needle was giving me a false reading. It wasn't and now I have a 3/4 full tank. If I can I'll try to remove the pump tomorrow. I'll have to push the car partially out of the garage to allow me to get the wing off, as the Morris is sharing the single car garage and it's tighter than a tight thing in tightland. If the weather is as crap as the forecast suggests, then I may well not do it.

I see Roy at ECAS sells the SPOG stud conversion, so I'll order that if I need to buy a new pump.
