Re: My 2cv
Thanks. Was good seeing you and all the gang, see you all next September. I'm in a little country inn on the English side of the Scottish border near Coldstream. Heading back to Aberdeen for tomorrow night's crossing back to Shetland.

Re: My 2cv
Boarded ferry in Aberdeen at 6pm yesterday and left port at 6:45pm. Arrived in Lerwick at 7:30am and after a quick run around Tesco I shot up to the ferry to Yell for 8:45am and the ferry to Unst at 10:05am. Arrived home at half ten. 2CV has been squeezed into the garage next to the Morris and I'm chilling for the rest of the day. Weather down south was mostly rubbish but now I'm home the sun is out and it's a lovely afternoon. Typical.

Re: My 2cv
So the 2CV has been sat, unused, in the garage since I returned home from my journey down south last month. Yesterday afternoon was a decent one, weather-wise, so I got it out and went for a 15 to 20 mile pootle. Drove very sweetly indeed. I've started to give it a bit of paintwork TLC today. I've managed to get almost half the car polished so far.

Re: My 2cv
Got home from work a little after 4pm and decided to pull the Deuche out of the garage and finish the polishing. Once I'd done that I took it for a run down to Uyeasound and back, via the shop. Hood fully open.

Re: My 2cv
Not been that lucky. On the drive down to Lerwick to catch the ferry to Aberdeen last month the rain was very heavy, persistent and accompanied by galeforce winds. The drive from Aberdeen to the south Midlands of England was the same. The drive back north was also crap. The entire time I was down on mainland UK saw the hood open for just 10 minutes. So I think I deserved the short drive out with the hood open yesterday.

Re: My 2cv
Has been a beautifully sunny and calm day today, so I've been out in the Deuche with the hood fully open. Is there any other way?

To be fair, as nice as it is to drive with the roof open .....there is something I find very homely & satisfying about driving a well sorted Deuche on a bright but cold winters day.....that warm cardboard smell from the heater tubes, with a whiff of warm oil and the smell of aging upholstery ....I find it comforting. Far better [in both instances] than driving a C4, with its air con [on a warm day]......or the heater [in winter] ... with that smell from those [rather expensive] "air freshener cartridges" the [my] C4 has fitted. Vive la Dueche... T.

Re: My 2cv
Haven't been using the 2CV for a few weeks and found the battery was dead yesterday afternoon. Decided to leave it as it was bloody freezing. I got up earlier than usual this morning and after pushing the Deuche out of the garage I jump started it off the Golf and drove the 4 miles to work. It restarted quickly and easily for the drive home at four o' clock, so I stopped for petrol and carried on down to Uyeasound before returning back to Baltasound. As the daylight was failing I noticed the headlamps were clearly nowhere near bright enough, so realised there was an issue with the electrics. As I was passing Nikkavord Lea the car cut out and refused to restart, battery seemingly completely flat. I checked the leads on the back of the alternator and found the wire to the agitator wasn't fully pushed on, so I re-secured it. I returned with the Golf and after jump starting the car it was showing a marked increase in headlamp brightness. A quick 2-mile drive seems to have put enough power back into the battery to be able to start it. I'm not too sure if I'm missing something here. I'd have expected a 2-mile drive wouldn't be anywhere near enough to put power back into the battery to be able to restart the engine. What's folks thoughts?

Re: My 2cv
Jonathan, maybe enough amp-hours for just the one start, so best to get that battery properly charged asap, then keep it on one of those 'smart' trickle chargers.
