Cracking Bank Holiday Weekend with plenty of walking along some of the many beaches that Shetland possesses. No further personal sightings of Orcas though. Have heard the pod I saw last week has headed back down south and has been seen passing through Lerwick Harbour. Photos of St Ninian's Isle and tombolo (biggest tombolo in the British Isles). https://earth.google.com/web/@59.973227 ... y,0h,0t,0r

Thought I'd just give an update on the Morris, for those who are interested. The starter motor has a badly worn commutator so it is off the car and should be on its way down to Autolec in Lerwick, tomorrow. Fingers crossed they can rebuild it with new bits. The carburetter (1930's UK spelling 8-) ) is overfilling and dumping much fuel into the engine, and out of the air intake (no air filter on these early cars). The car is currently in the island garage a mile up the road from my house. Other than those two issues I'm hopeful of a nicely running car very soon. The target for this year is to drive it down to the ferry terminal, over to Yell, visit the Old Haa at Burravoe for coffee and cake, and return home without incident. A return journey of around 60 miles.

Well, I learnt something this evening... Much was said about PSA's purchase of General Motor's European operations (Vauxhall/Opel) back in February, but days earlier PSA bought the Indian car company, Hindustan Motors, famous for building the Morris Oxford Series 2 model of 1956-59, under the name Hindustan Ambassador. PSA will market Peugeots as Hindustan Ambassadors on the sub-continent. PSA is also re-entering the North American market by 2020, including the Citroën brand. PSA is also looking at purchasing Proton, which owns Lotus Cars. Of course, this is all financed by Chinese money as PSA is now part-owned by Dongfeng Motors.

At least the majority of the company is under French control.

Wasn't a criticism, just an observation. At least the French still have a motor industry.

The starter motor for the Morris should return from Autolec tomorrow. They haven't been able to replace major parts, but they have been able to get it partly refurbished and working. Once it has been refitted in the car, it's just a matter of sorting out the float on the SU carb, and fingers crossed the Minor will be hitting the island's roads next week.
