 Re: Joolz's Red One
I've been making progress. I've made up new gearbox mounts to fit the 4-sp back in, and it sits 40mm lower at the back than the 5-sp. The engine and box are back in, and some of the ancillaries are on, driveshafts connected, new outer 2cv and middle gaiter on the righthand side. There's been lots of having to wash parts down before refitting them, as everything's black with oil, including washing the brake pads with petrol and sanding the rust off discs. Huge amounts of clutch 'paste' to clean off the flywheel, and fitted a better secondhand friction plate.
Still got to modify the exhaust swan-neck so it fits, and then its mostly just reconnecting stuff. Also got to replace some fuel pipe too. There's a piece I fitted about 18 months ago that's full of cracks, despite it being date stamped 2013 and having 'R9 suitable for unleaded' written on it.
A couple more nice days would see it ready, but today's looking like being rained off, so still not sure. There would be photos, but I'm having difficulty uploading them from the tablet, either directly or via photobucket.

 Re: Joolz's Red One
OK here you go. Extremely oily, but still manages to rust! Out with the old, in with the... old! New mounts, using part of the very first set, but now with the transit shock bushes welded on.

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Date stamped 2013, utter shite! There's some other stuff that's only R6 and has been on there a couple of years longer and is still ok, but it's branded Codan, guess it pays to have a name on it.

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Eh jules a few questions if you have a bit of spare time
Got any more photos of the gearbox mount?? i like your thinking, i was considering using ZX lower arm front bushes x 2 did you shorten the Visa bell housing on this one, like you previously mentioned and lastly i think it is a 2cv flywheel is it modified ( lightened)
cheers lou

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Lou, there are quite good pics of the mounts on the 5sp back on page 21, they're still the same now except the bracket on the gearbox is slightly different. All my different incarnations of gearbox have used a visa bellhousing with 10mm machined off the front, the crank spacer is shorted to match, the flywheel has a few mm skimmed off the engine side for clearance.

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Was it cheap fuel hose? I find only marine outboard fuel hose lasts any length but its mega bucks

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Could have been warm, it was directly over the gearbox. Think it came from 'advanced fluid solutions' and was the cheapest stuff I could find that had a high enough spec (labeled R9). Will have to go for something superior in future, trouble is knowing what that is.

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Joolz, how about the bend radius, assuming there was one? ( A minimum of 50mm for that size of fuel hose, iirc and since the crazing/cracking looks to be somewhat one-sided...)
