What's that tressle you've got the car on, as shown in pic P1060899.jpg ? I'm looking for some kind of stand for my project, so any recommendation would be useful. Thanks.

 Re: 1955 Traction Avant 11cv
Tough day today, I started on the floor replacement. Firstly I had to heat up and scrape the bitumen mess from the front bulkhead, what a crappy job that was and quite awkward getting in there too But most of it came off leaving just a shimmer of black that will be covered with the Fatmat sound/heat proofer http://www.fatmat.com . It may not be original but I bet citroen would have used something similar if it was available at the time and not that sticky tar stuff that is all over the car I then cut out the front floor section and air hammered the spot welds off the surrounding ledge. That was a job and a half and I fell like I am getting into the touch restoration work now.... grinding and welding....man work Attachment:

I bought the replacement front floor panel from José Franssen in Belgium. It was a good price but now I know why. How can a manufacturer not get the pattern right for the triangular sections underneath. It is not hard. And if the original cars are all so individual, then leave the bloody things off and leave the purchaser weld them on.... See how much they are out of line (the thin strip is a piece I cut from the floor and that welding.... that is how it came) Attachment:

So I had to remove the outer two sections and place them in line with the existing section on the car and reeled them. A job that takes time which would be better spent drinking tea. Attachment:

The panel is placed in until tomorrow. I need to put in the angled reinforcement sections on the surrounding edge. I tried using some really nice zinc coated metal today but even though I ground the surface off the welds were not holding, I had to knock it out and I even spend 30 mins running test weld on the bench but it was crap. Going to get some nice mild steel tomorrow and do a proper job Attachment:

It is a small hydraulic lift I got from Germany. But loads of places in the UK sell them, I just get my stuff from outside of France to save me paying VAT on it (so an immediate 20% reduction). It has been fantastic to work at all levels, but i had to put the car on the its wheels to do the underside as the lift is ion the way - goes to 1.3m so with a little wheelie stool I can do most jobs underneath.

 Re: 1955 Traction Avant 11cv
To all you gearbox experts - does this look OK too you? I spun the drive shaft and there are no fractures or missing teeth. All looks good. Oil (not much left) looks clean with no bits at the bottom. I can change 1st and reverse OK and just need to work out 2nd and 3rd. To me it looks pretty clean and should run, but what do you think ? Attachment:

 Re: 1955 Traction Avant 11cv
Silly question - I bought a electric feel pump that I will install closer to the tank. Does this mean I can do away with the mechanical engine feel pump and just put a blank slate where it should be. And then feed the fuel pipe directly to the carb. Lots of stuff I was thinking about while welding the floor in today

 Re: 1955 Traction Avant 11cv
Yes that must work. Or you leave the old in place and make a bypass. So you will have a reserve.
