 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
The visa club and lna were rare in the uk when they were current, a French scrappie is your best bet.

I recently checked
Ami Super and Visa bell housing are the same length.
this week i hope to build a new gearbox mounting for Ami super 4 speed type box for my raid chassis so will post a picture when done
BMW motor revs to 9000 i think! power really comes in at 7000!

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
Those revs might be for the 1100S, my 1150R red lines at 7500 with power coming in around 5000.

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
Depends what you want to use it for. If you want a comfortable daily driver you might concider a box with longer ratio, if you want to go racing, you might like something else. All also depends on what kind of engine you are going to use, how much power and torque. Don't forget beemer engines do much higher rpm then a standard 2cv engine. So even with a standard 2cv box you go faster.
But check out teh website of jeroen cats, he has a list with all availible boxes and a tuning calculator so you can calculate what the optimal configuration is for your car.

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
Doesn't a 602cc peak power 7000rpm? The 1100 BMW R series makes peak at 7250rpm so only marginal rpm gain.

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
No, definitely not, 5750rpm is peak power for a 602 according to haynes. The BMW depends on which bike it comes from, R and GS are tuned for torque, RS and RT are slightly revier, and the 1100S being revier still.

Got my crank spacer made today so getting there, mod flywheel next to machine.

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
After some m11x1.5 cap bolts 85 mm long, can anyone direct me to a source? I know alit of head bolts are m11 but dont know a car that runs them the correct length I need. Google search brings up hardware places in the USA and nothing in UK.

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
i don't have 85mm either, but you can shorten them on a lathe.... I guess http://boelm.nl/cilinderkopboutset-10-stuks-049103384b-m11x1-5x96.htmldownside of these, you need a special key to fasten them and the heads are very big... They do fit the crankshaft, but didn't test them in height yet...
