Was a nice day so took the 2CV out of a run and headed to Ross-on-Wye. On the A38 in Kempsey I passed a green & white 2CV heading the other way (lots of enthusiastic waving from the lady driver). In Ross a convoy of around 7 Morris Minor One Millions came past!! :o Also saw two Minor Tourers(convertibles) in Ross. Driving home I took the A449 towards Ledbury and passed a red MGB Roadster and a red Morgan near Ledbury. In Malvern I passed a c1913-1922 Bullnose Morris (Oxford or Cowley model), a red 2CV Special with blue boot-lid, a 1920s Austin 7 Box Saloon, and a Triumph Spitfire in Malvern Link. :D

Did you go through a time vortex or something?

 No, but there are a number of shops in Ross that made me think I'd gone back to the 1950s.

Fitted a new engine breather:

Access to the small 11mm bolts at the base was awkward with fat fingers and although I could undo them with my small box spanner I wondered how I'd get them started when replacing them. A bit of lateral thinking later and I'd sorted it: loosening the alternator adjuster nut and bolt. allowing the whole bracket to slide up and out the way gave far better access and by stuffing the 11mm socket full of grease before replacing these bolts ensured they wouldn't fall out and I could start them nicely without cross threading them. Had to gently bend the small pipe into alignment, the one that goes to the dipstick via a rubber hose, but other than that a simple replacement. Runs nicely now.

Gave it a big service, overdue after doing 3500 miles on our Poland trip last month and a couple of thousand more since. The air filter was filthy. I still can't master getting the wings on and off smoothly, even with the car raised and the wheels dangling down clear, I must have done it a dozen times now too.

You have been putting an old pair of long socks on the ends of the front bumper, haven't you?
Although a pair of welding gauntlets will do the same job...

Used the 2CV to get over to Pandy, on the A465 between Abergavenny and Hereford. My friend Charlotte (who runs the BBC2CV Club, has a 2CV, and is a regular contributor on here) has a Singer Chamois (Hillman Imp) and the Hillman Imp club are camping at The Rising Sun this weekend. I had my very first trip in an Imp when we convoyed to Tintern Abbey. Fantastic fun, and a fab day. Thanks Charlotte. :D

Two 2 litre coke (other brands available) bottles with the contents emptied and the bottom cut away will fit nicely over the ends of the bumper and gives good protection to the paintwork.

Just returned from one last drive in the 2CV for 2014. Tomorrow, for the first time ever, I'm declaring SORN for the winter. :(
