What a difference 2 degrees makes!

Drove to Woodcote Rally via Wallingford and thought car was not pulling on the hill quite as well as it usually does. Casual glacnce to the table switch revealled I'd left it on table 2 which is 2 degrees back from the standard table. Flicked it back to the standard table and 2cv started pulling again.

Oh how I love 1-2-Spark. Its great...

Hi Boggy, I have had 3 weeks holyday, so took a moment to do nothing at 1-2-Spark....
And I'm busy with my Beamer lately.

I've made a prototype for plug and play for Visa with the new sensor mentioned one page ago, but at the first try, the engine doesn't rev.. so it seems the sensor is to slow to us in a car...

Another problem is that this sensor works minimum at 6 volt so to high for my chip......

What I need is a proximity sensor working at 5 volt, giving 5 volt when the pickup passes and 0 volt when the sensor has passed.... (Otherway round wouldn't be a problem)...

The problem is most Hall sensors need a magnetic pickup so we can't use those....

So at the moment I'm still looking for the right sensor... All other things are sorted, as my costumers can confirm...

Post Re: 1-2-spark
Here the latest developments about 1-2-Spark (Visa)..

Because the 1-2-Spark chip is running on 5 volts the easiest thing would be to take a (Visa likish) sensor which will run on 5 volts...

At the Alibaba website I found a sensor which would run at 5 volts...

After sending an email they confirmed again that it would run on 5 volt..

Post and package was much but the sensors where cheap so I ordered about 10 sensors for about 60 euro...

Last week they arrived at my home.. Then I did the unboxing like many are video-ed at youtube..

First thing my eyes where seeing was a sticker on the sensor mentioning that it runs on 6 to 30 volt.. WTF.....

OK. keep calme they will run on 5 volt, the friendly Chinese woman emailded they would run on 5 volt so they will..

So last wednesday I made a prototype running this new sensor.....
Well as we aspected it didn't run on 5 volts.......

So at the moment I'm emailing with the friendly Chinese women called Wendy to send the sensors back...

Here some emailing...

My email:
I didn’t recieve 1 sensor??
I ordered 10 sensors, in every email I wrote I asked if they were 5 volt. In every email you sent me you confirmed they will be 5 volt..
Today I tested the sensors which I recieved from you.. First thing, on the sensor it says 6 volt minimum????
Then I tested with 5 volt and they don’t work... At higher voltages they work fine, but that is no option for me..
Now all the sensors I ordered on your recommandation are useless for me....

Wendy's email:
Dear Geo,
Could you use the sensors in other field?
As here I checked with the engineer and know that they told me it's ok for 5VDC....
Or we do the new sample to you?
Best regards,
Wendy

My email:
No sorry I have no other use for it...
As said before I’m using it as a trigger in programmable automotive ignition (1-2-Spark)
Running more then 13 herz it doesn’t work at 5 volt and even then the maximum gap between sensor and pick up may not excess 0.2mm..
For me it should be running up to 167 herz (10000rpm) and a minimum gap of 1mm (better would be 2mm)...

Wendy's email:
So should we do the new 10pcs sample sensor in5VDC for you, ok?
Best regards,
Wendy

Now I didn't answer this last email yet... Why the fuck they didn't deliver right away 5 volt sensors....
No; they delivers first wrong ones to deliver the good once later????

Is this Chines logic or what....

Do you believe they can deliver the good once???? Well I'm not (anymore)

So I started to going another route.

I'm now working on a sensor with 12 volts, which goes to an optocoupler and then going th e chip giving it only 5 volts... At my testbench it looks promissing right now. So next week I will put it in my car to test it... Hopefully it works, ten we have a solution for Visa...

To be continued...

I know what you mean (unfortunately)

if you want something out of the box, they will tell you yes yes it will work, take the money, send the stuff (if you are lucky) and then you receive something that doesn't meet up to your requirements... very frustrating and disapointing!

good luck finding something that works!

greetzzzzzzzzz

Geo, have you tried Honeywell 1gt101dc? It works with 5vdc, has an open-collector output, and can read 60-2 pattern over 6000 RPM...

Tested with 6-1 trigger wheel, no problem with 12000 RPM, also 2cv black coil worked well with that RPM...

Thanks for your tip Jasu... but..... I want it to replace a Visa sensor and looking at the dimensions this sensor is to short to reach the original pickup at the flywheel....

Also the price is to high for my opinion, I want to stay (far) below 200 euro and with a sensor of 50 euro this wouldn't be the case.....

Maybe I order one for myself just to try if it runs on my ignition.....
