Post 2cv trailer project
For years I have wanted to build a trailer from the back of a 2cv. Over the last couple of evenings I've finally dug out th bits and started having a look at it all.
Has anyone else on here ever done this I've got a picture somewhere of one that somone had made which is the kind of thing I'd like to replicate I'll post it when I caan find it.
The main problem I can see at the moment is the suspension as the spring cans will protrude to far forwards (I plan to cut them in half) I've thought of using the front tie rod as they are shorter but still not ahort enough. I don't know an amazing deal about the suspension could I shorten tie rods even more?

Chris! :?

I'd have thought you'd be better not using 2cv suspension and a cut off chassis, you'd be better to buy some indispension units and make a lightweight trailer frame from scratch.

I think a bespoke 'chassis' would make it a lot lohhter and more usable. I remember Daras saying how heavy his 2cv trailer was, he towed it with a DS!

The thought has crossed my mind as it would be a lot easier in ways to use proper trailer suspension units. But I'd have to adapt the hubs somehow or stub axles and use 2cv drums or hubs modified to take original 2cv wheels. The chassis will be pretty bespoke ish! Just really trying to find out how others that have done it before have gone with suspension before!

Post Re: 2cv trailer project
I have a trailer with 2cv wheels for many many years now....

Took a standard trailer with torsion axle. Cut of the wheelhubs. Cut of the hubs of a 2cv backaxle, (have plenty of them making 4x4's   welded them on the torsion axle. Straighten everything on my eye and thats it... (Well I just did it the LPGO way again simple but effective)

I've build my whole house with it putting 500kg of sand or bricks in it.........

I think I have a picture someware; will post it here.....

If got the trailer for free, there where some bad 12 inch wheels on it, so replaced the fenders and put on the 2cv wheels.........

Good plan I can buy trailer suspension units without stub axles. Then recover some 2cv ones from scrap rear arms I have and weld in!

How do I link the pictures so they show up in the thread rather than just links?

Just worked it out with a little bit of help from James!
