Rescued the seat belt supports from the old floors.


Left them in CocaCola for a week then gave them a wire brushing.

Apart from that I spent most of last weekend rust busting with this Hydrate80 stuff and prepping/painting the lower 3 inches of the body. I figured the more the merrier. It's got a couple of weeks to properly harden off now so over valentines weekend I'll get sticky underneath her filling her cavities.

Started looking at my 'new' passenger door which I got from Joe back in 2010. It's been dry stored since then (and I think Joe had it in the dry too).



Gave it a gentle wipe down with some car wax and warm water then cleaned it up with G3.



Starting to look really good. The only area of concern is the from bottom corner, but it's nothing too bad, the door still has plenty of metal and life in it.



Cleaned it up and got it mostly back to bare metal before treating it with HyDrate80 by Bilt Hamber.



Filled the sills, A, B and C posts with Bilt's Dynax S50. Used about a litre and a half so far.





Finally, having left the MANY layers of paint to harden up for 2 weeks I rollered the bottom of the floors and toe board with Dynax UB40. I globed it on with a brush before rolling it to get a good spread.





SO much nicer to work with than waxoyl.

I used S50 on the underside of the sills and on all seams before going over with the UB40.



Mucho protection.

Much progress these last few days

New chassis (courtesy of Jojo) sprayed up by Russ.



It's an SLC - 'continental version' I believe because of the fittings for a bottom plate.



The swap in progress. The 2cv City chassis has been great, it's done over 60,000 miles but I'm just so fed up with the stupid shock absorber mounts shearing off. Time for a change now that I'm older and wiser.



I'm glad I decided to change the chassis as otherwise I'd never have found out that my spring cans were in such a mess. One of the doughnuts was rusted on solid.




I cleaned up some spare threaded tubes, think they came up well!




Top Tip: If you just happen to have some baby oil lying around, it brings the rubbers up beautifully. I also use it to clean the weather gear on the Mehari.

Back in one piece

Sam,
only just spotted these, as I've been out this morning, sending #1 son on his way to Aberdeen.

So, a couple of points.
Did you put chassis tape on top of the rear legs, for the full length that the boot floor rests on them?
Could also have done with a wider piece under the front bulkhead/toeboard as well as on the transverse parts of the outriggers.

Also, have you got a closer photograph of the gearbox mount? I cannot make out if it's fitted the right way round...
