Post Coil
2 year old coil (20.000 clicks) failed today. Did a 25 km trip, stopped for 5 mins and couldn't start again. Lifted the bonnet, nothing wrong. Swapped the wires on the coil and pulled the starter cable. Voila started straight away, why?

Post Re: Coil
coil or Plugs? thats the old trick for getting the plugs to wear evenly, or if its not been done as routine it gets the car started by making the other plug work for a living.

Post Re: Coil
With points the coil will always overload, so that goes all into the capacitor (well till some level), so when your capacitor gets bad, your coil is getting cooked little by little and the suddenly after a few monhts your car won't start...... reversing the current (what you did) can help for a while..... put in a good quality capacitor........ or something you don't like (has something to do with electronics and ignition)

Viking why is it always your car that defies all the usual logic :D:D
Did you actually look at the plugs lately? Which plugs do you run? The 3000km to Spain and back would be enough to kill off equiems in my experience ( never liked them) - and as your van seems to be doing other odd things perhaps it was plug fouling?
