Post Hub caps
So which look do people prefer on their A-series?

I've always thought along these lines...

Looks good

Not good

Nice

Not quite right

Just awful

Yeah I'd go with that.

I too am inclined to agree, although I do have hub caps on my D*lly. On a Mehari, agreed it would be horrendous. Personally I don't really like Ami slots, ironically the only car I do like them on is Beachcombers.

I also like the long wheel nuts in preference to the short ones.

The centre caps look right on "posher" A-series, imho. So that beige Ami 8 looks like something's missing without (The green Ami 8's just trying to compensate for the lack of the other two cylinders, with the Super grille & slots...)

The Dyane's borderline, but gets away with it. They look consistent on the D*lly - the godawful 'orses 'ead 'andle, though... <grimace>

As for the Mehari - it's the sheer shiny-fresh-painted-ness of the wheels which is the most jarring element...

G Pallas full-wheel trims, though... No. Never. Ever.

I bought a set of Ami Super slots in 1983 and have had them on every single A-series I've owned since then, no matter what model.

Worth remembering that the vast majority of Ami Supers didn't have slotted wheels. They came in as a package of "updates", along with the stripes, for 1974 - but something like 3/4 of all Supers built were in 1973.

Ami Super production
1973 - 33577
1974 - 4650
1975 - 3554
1976 - no figure, discontinued Feb '76
Total - "about 42000"

Wouldn't put them on anything other than an AZAM. If you get off your face on LSD and paint them pink and orange and put them on a shed, that would also be fine. Apart from that...
