He finally retired because he realised we'd all got wise and that was the last boat he was getting...

Wot Neil said. that looks very tasty! Pretty good condition too. Is the chassis about to fold, or is it just the toeboard giving up?

Are you going shiny new paint, or just make it solid and leave as is?

Cheers, Ben

Front floors are about at that "patch or replace" point. Sills are fine, with some small patching around the base of the A-pillars/hinges. Toeboard inner and outer is shot.

The chassis...? It's folded... No strength there at all - when we picked it up, the wing/bonnet fill panels were more or less flat, but you could flex them with a toe on the front bumper. They're now very bulged out, just from the stresses of trailering it home with the wheels strapped down. That nice Mr Hanna has an email awaiting him.

It'd be CRIMINAL to repaint it. It's getting localised repairs to the window surrounds, and that's about it. Maybe to some of the crusties around the fuel tank panel, spare wheel flap and bottom of one rear door - but I'm very tempted to just fill them with wax and see how they fare.

I can't decide the best way to stop the decay in it's tracks, though. A thick coat of polish/wax will ruin that wonderfully matt finish. I might just go for the farmer's approach and wash it in paraffin regularly... <grin>

Good choice. Very happy with my delivery from the right part of Yorkshire :)

I think that someone on the snail forum had mentioned some stuff to stop the rust in it's tracks but nothing more. I've not seen one that's been treated in the tin, so can't say if it's shiny or not. Glad to hear you're keeping it au naturel.

It would definitely appear to have spent it's life in a nice warm environment!

The chassis is on order. It may be a little while, though. Uncle Ken seems to be a bit busy. I really must get the lockup cleared.

Hmmm. Coat it with rustol (bike fuel tank deruster/protector) or this stuff...

I've emailed 'em, ask their thoughts. We shall see. A sample would be good, to test.

Alternatively...

suggests this stuff...

It's busy getting some serious climate-shock, I think.

It's tucked away... Finally!

There's been a shortage of garage space - one lockup's got the 350 in, one's got Sparky in, and the third was the parts-pile-from-hell...

Image

After some rummaging, two trips to the tip, and some flogging at both Reg & the CCC Nat'l last week - I can report that the Mehari is tucked away in there, which means that the garage at the house now contains the 400.

Umm, well, it would do... If it fitted under the door. Ohbugger.

A bit of prodding and poking and wedging with big sticks later, the van went under the front of the door. Then hit the interior handle. So it was time for Ellie to leap like a gazelle onto the back bumper. It scraped under.

Then just about enough time to get most of the miscellany of crap back in around the front of the van, and the door. shuts. almost.

I think a bit more sorting might be in order. But, for the mo, the van's in the dry.

If you'd put the crap in the van it'd have gone under...

Did I forget to mention that there's about eight '60s doors in the back of the van at the mo?
