Post How do I build a 2CV cross car?
because this car has been such a shambling turd for me, I don't want to use it any more, and because of its non existant reliability I can't see anybody wanting to pay me a lot of money for it, I want to turn it from something that looks like this:

...into something a bit more like this.

I'm not 100% sure I will have the money or the time to do it, but next year I'm thinking strongly about taking a long weekend out to go and compete in a round of 2cv cross in France. I have the bamboo which has a solid rot free shell and a galvanised chassis, now, I've read what I can understand of the rules for building a car ( http://www.2cvcross.fr/rglttechnique.pdf and http://www.2cvcross.fr/rgltgeneral.pdf ) and because my french skillz are pretty dire, I need a bit of help.

Here goes:

*Do I have to use a genuine citroen style chassis, or an Ami8 chassis, or, can I leave it on the galv chassis it's already got?

*Do I have to buy a roll cage which has some sort of official approval, or can I make one myself?

*Do i have to be a member of any clubs or organisations, or can I pretty much turn up and race it having handed over a few euros?

* I don't understand anything in the regs about fire extinguishers, do they have to be plumbed in with the addition of a hand held style one?

Thanks in advance, as i said, I don't really understand a lot of what's written in the rules there, and I don't want to go ahead, build a car without knowing what I'm doing and go out to France only to be turned away.

I did email the 2cv cross people but they simply told me to read the rukles as everything I needed to know was in there....

Hey Russell, why don't we go on a spying mission together? I will also join the circus one day. My wife is French and can/will do all the translation

Hi Russ,
it doesn't look too promising regarding the use of an aftermarket chassis... :(

"La plate-forme, les bras, les butées de suspension et les traverses d'essieu
doivent être de série Citroën et dans les seules gammes 2cv, Dyane, Méhari, Ami 6,
Ami 8, fourgonnette 2 2cv et 3 2cv."

ken
p.s. 'a solid, rot free shell'?
You should see some of the stuff I'm having to weld nowadays.
The one I started today is having a couple of rear inner wings for starters, as this was the best way of dealing with previous "repairs", mostly consisting of filler and bathroom sealant.

Ok, so I'd need to swap mine for a Citroen one, I assume that means any chassis from a 2cv, Dyane, Méhari, Ami 6,
Ami 8, van in 425,435 or 602?
